An American anchor working for state-owned television station Russia Today quit on air on Wednesday. Liz Wahl, in the network's D.C. bureau, said she could no longer be "part of a network that whitewashes the actions of Putin." Wahl said she is the grandchild of Hungarian refugees who fled Soviet oppression.

(135,425 posts)There's a subset of folks here who still regard that piece of shit propaganda hellhole as a go-to network. Nice to know at least one anchor was sharp enough to tell it like it is.

(13,340 posts)It seems like some folks have invested so much indentity into being against American imperialism, that they lost perspective and support outright goons and tyrants just because they oppose America. It's like they turn off the critical thinking part of of their brain.

(135,425 posts)Many are caricatures of liberals, and they do it deliberately, I think, in order to create false impressions. It's a way of mocking us. It's really kinda sick and sad--I mean, really, who goes to all the trouble, as a mature and thinking adult, to pretend to be something you are not strictly for the purposes of "getting one over" on people that you don't even know?
They're probably powerless in their real lives; forty and living with Mom, being forced to take out the garbage and walk the dog, being called to dinner like a child. Coming here and jerking the chains (or trying to) of people with brains and lives makes them feel like they've got some clout and control. I suppose such a fetid existence should be a cause for feeling pity for the putzes, but I have a hard time mustering up any emotion that exceeds the annoyance that comes from gum on my shoe!
As for the ones who are sincerely touting the "so far left they're on the far right" POV, well, they're just stupid. If they had to join the regimes they cheerlead, they'd shit bricks, whine, wave the flag, and plead for a team of SEALS to come rescue them!

I mean, really--it's got to be the most immature behavior on the internet, to troll like that. There are plenty of websites where people can have rollicking political arguments from all sides of the spectrum, it just makes no sense that anyone would want to go into a like-minded group for the purposes of disruption. It's like a child having a tantrum.
I imagine the shrinks are looking into this behavior as it becomes more prevalent. I think it's a form of mental illness, myself--something that needs intervention. It's clearly the mark of an unhappy person who feels victimized, put-upon and unfulfilled. Shitty way to go through life, if you ask me!

(37,457 posts)I won't link to it here for obvious reasons, but this writer was convinced a war was going to happen between Russia and Ukraine. Neo-nazi takeover of Ukraine, the whole nine yards. If THAT is what Putin and his bunch really think...Ukraine and its allies are in for a rough ride. It was depressing to skim over it.

Too bad all the media whores on our MSM didn't have the same integrity while they were white washing all the crimes of the Bush administration, from the missed cues of 911, the lies leading up to wars, the neglect that caused the Katrina disaster, etc..
Many of those media personalities are still on the air.

(1,451 posts)I knew that from the start. To get to the truth you have to contrast and compare all media, right, left, foreign, eastern, western, etc. Our media is mostly corporate, we all know that now as fact, and being corporate nobody can really trust it to reveal truths that matter to moral citizens, like anything a corporation wants to hide, or nationalistic and imperialistic BS that goes on in DC. Truth is hard earned by reading multiple sources, it's not for everybody, except the most noble among us.
