The Dalai Lama gave the opening prayer at the U.S. Senate for the first time ever on Thursday.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) thanked the Tibetan spiritual leader for his words.
Last month the Dalai Lama also met with President Barack Obama at the White House, which provoked a stern rebuke from the Chinese government.

(18,868 posts)Buddhists don't believe in a creator God. They are all about karma. And Tibetan Buddhism is all about compassion for all sentient beings. It's about enlightenment and compassion and finding joy in your life.
I love the Dalai Lama and have followed him for years. Some people on this board have posted just awful things about him but I have never heard anything over the years that would make me believe any of the awful attacks against him.
He is all about freedom for Tibet and he will go and speak anywhere and to anyone if he thinks it will do any good.

(8,020 posts)I respect the Dalai Lama.
I just don't think prayers have any place in our Government.
