LINCOLN — Jeremiah Jensen has carried the fear for 750 days.

Today, he can let it go.

Ever since he learned he had a baby daughter two years ago, the unwed father from Grand Island worried that he could lose her to adoption.

The Nebraska Supreme Court ruled Friday, for the second time, that he must be allowed to stop adoption proceedings.

This seems like a reasonable and humane ruling. Comrade Grumpy Mar 2014 #1
If I'm reading it right, it looks like the bio mom has maintained custody of the child. Sheldon Cooper Mar 2014 #2
Maybe because the adoption agency called him? Go Vols Mar 2014 #3

Birth mother lied, denying he was the father.

Birth mother told the adoption agency he was the father.

Birth mother didn't tell him she had had the child, setting the clock in motion for his window to fight adoption.

State Supreme Court ruled in his favor last year, saying birth mother had unfairly withheld the information.

Birth mother then claimed he was a bad guy, but provided no evidence.

Now (?) birth mother wants to keep the child.

Father is paying child support and he and birth mother will fight over custody and visitation.

So I'm not sure why they'd say that he was worried about losing the child to adoption. Unless the mom was planning to have a potential new husband formally adopt the child? Anyway, I'm glad the guy won the right to know and see his daughter.

an adoption agency caseworker called and said the former girlfriend was due Feb. 18, and she had identified him as the father. Jensen told the caseworker he opposed the adoption.
