Dick Cheney on Ukraine: Mistake to Take Military Options Off the Table
by Evan McMurry | 11:30 am, March 9th, 2014
Former Vice President Dick Cheney told Face the Nation guest host Charlie Rose that the Obama administration should not have taken military options off the table in response to Russias invasion of the Crimean peninsula, and that Obama had a harder task in gathering allies after reversing course on attacks in Syria.
I worry when we begin to address the crisis, the first thing we do is take options off the table, Cheney said. In the sense of saying no military. [Obama] seems to operate that way most of the time. There are military options that dont involve putting groups on the ground in Crimea.
Cheney suggested restarting work on ICBM missle defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic, which the U.S. shelved a few years ago in a concession to Russia, as well as joint military exercises in the region, and offering equipment and training to Ukrainian forces.

(12,041 posts)I hate that our media still tries to pretend this guy has an opinion that is worth considering, the guy is responsible for what may be the worst foreign policy disaster in our nation's history yet people still think we want to hear his opinion on how to conduct foreign policy.

(10,893 posts)big on promoting RWers who are no longer relevant in general, whether it's him, Ted Nugent, Donald Trump, or Sarah Palin. None of them have did much recently, yet we still see them on places like CBS, CNN, and FOX. I'm actually surprised that CBS didn't also look for Bush ll to talk about this crisis.

Brilliant options that bring us closer to war with a nuclear power! That's just . . . Rad!

(25,515 posts)It would be worth having them on TV if they played by the same rules and gave the same advice when their party was in power, but since they don't give a crap about American and only care about "power" their opinion is worthless.

(18,186 posts)There is no war this man doesn't get a woody for.
He seems to thrive on thinking of mass chaos and violence and death, as long as HE never has to fight in one himself.
He has no shame.
And more $$$$$$$$$$ for him and his MIC cronies would be his only motive here

(18,186 posts)Can you imagine how sick and twisted his mind is?
He knows what he did in Iraq, all the death and destruction and pain and sorrow. Both to the Iraqis and to our own troops.
But that wasn't enough blood and maimed bodies and devastation for him in his lifetime. He wants to leave this earth knowing that there is more of it every day. That more people die, more soldiers die, more babies are dismembered, more people's homes and businesses and lives are destroyed. There is noever enough horror for him to consume like the sociopath he has always been. Because $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
CHENEY IS A MONSTER. If there really was a devil, he would look EXACTLY like Dick Cheney.
I have wished the worst sorts of nightmares and suffering on that man. I know of few people who deserve it more.

(82,383 posts)There's no reason for our involvement. In Syria at least the guy was using chemical weapons. Here, it's just an argument over whether Ukraine joins the EU or stays under Russia's thumb. Does that really make a big difference to us?
Can't Halliburton make money off this war anyway? I would think they could sell their crap to either or both sides here.
