Ah the joys of subbing stuff out and being a "virtual" aircraft manufacturer. http://money.msn.com/business-news/article.aspx?feed=OBR&date=20140307&id=17417452&ocid=ansmony11

(18,672 posts)where the OP brought up the fact that if you Google, "Boeing 777", the first thing that pops up are the capitalist PR stories. Though right now, they are 2nd and 3rd, but they'll be back up on top in no time.
Living in Boeing country, I've seen how they will lay off hundreds of workers then hire hundreds of new workers months later. This can't be good for solid production, trading years of experience in crafting an airplane for new trainees who will be paid much less. Capitalism and the greed that drives it, run amok.

Like the proverbial "selling sizzle instead of the steak". Boeing is just one of many US-based companies that have been doing this and riding the wave of their past good reputations. For so long they have been seen as one of the last bulwarks of US manufacturing. Now it's getting more and more just a brand name, and they're really putting the squeeze on their US employees even as they rake in huge profits.
What's good for XYX company is not necessarily good for you, though you'd never know that listening to the fawning of the business press as they cheerily chirp about these once great company's financials.
