Officers responded just before 9 p.m. to a home near 41st and 209th East Avenue for what investigators say was the "accidental discharge" of a handgun.
Upon arrival, police found a 2-year-old boy who had shot himself.
The toddler was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound in the upper torso.
Broken Arrow Cpl. Leon Calhoun tells 2NEWS the boy did not survive his injuries.

Should whomever left the gun unsecured and accessible to the toddler be allowed to ever own, use or handle a gun again in his/her lifetime?

what, if any, adults were present when this happened
how the kid got the gun
what gun security was missing (was it just lying on a table, in an unlocked cabinet, handed to the kid...)
So, we know nothing pertinent except the kid managed to shoot himself. A tragedy, sure, and something was wrong, but not much to judge by.

(48,121 posts)Arrest the gun, put it in a box, or give it to their neighbor if that neighbor happens to also have a part or full time job anywhere in the government (since those are the truly trust worthy people and we only want them to have guns).
I am sure the over 45 million other people who own and use guns responsibly want that person charged and to never own a gun again, but let's ignore them (as we so often do because all are guilty by association).
All of that aside - the same thing that happens when a child hurts/kills themselves other ways on accident. Remove the pools, no more car ever, don't let people have their prescription drugs if the kid got them, etc.

(16,064 posts)if you own a gun or support so called 'gun rights' you may as well have pulled the trigger yourself. You are guilty.

(78,249 posts)It was criminal negligence on the part of whoever left the gun unsecured and accessible to the toddler.
