Girl Scouts face far-right 'cookiecott'

This has been going on for a couple of years now. Just bought 4 boxes instead of my usual 2..

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/03/11/1283801/-Girl-Scouts-face-far-right-cookiecott

The far right is once again boycotting Girl Scout cookies because of the Girl Scouts' alleged support for abortion. As we've seen time and time again, the far right with its knickers in a twist over abortion means some pretty special stuff, like eight-year-old Girl Scouts interrogated about abortion as they try to sell cookies to their neighbors. But where are these claims of a great Girl Scout abortion conspiracy coming from? Robin Marty details just how much of a stretch the supposed connections are. Most recently:

The Girl Scouts’ Twitter account tweeted a link to a Huffington Post Live segment discussing potential candidates for woman of the year for 2013. Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis was mentioned as a contender, as were singer Beyonce, Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai and even “the brave women on social media.”
Just one link to one three-minute video with a 30 second mention of Davis was enough to constitute an “endorsement,” according to abortion opponents, and justification enough to start the ball rolling for the boycott—or at least for this newest boycott.

Chocolate Chips nestled in a bite-size, gluten free shortbread cookie. Millions of Americans have problems eating food with gluten – so we've created a delicious cookie just for them! Made with real chocolate chips and real butter, the Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread is premiering in a number of test markets this year.

Although I haven't seen them yet. I live in Hoboken, maybe Christie blocked them since my mayor didn't endorse him. No cookies for you, Hoboken!!!

I'm kidding, but they haven't been around the train terminal. It's cute to see all the different troops, from the little ones to the teenagers. Different ones come every day for two weeks or so. Maybe it's too soon and they'll show up closer to April, I can't remember when they start coming.

It's below the reasoning facility of the mind, and the RWers keep it that way. All fear, hate and hellfire.

People running from one pole to another inside their mental landscape don't pay attention to anything but the flashing red lights anymore. Their view of reality is restricted from basic instincts.

'You don't have time to think, you must react, it's survival time, do or die!'

There is no objective reality, no thought process from RW media sources. Reaction and reflex is all they live on. To take time to reflect, analyze, even doubt one's programmed position is called 'weak' or 'spineless.' Your mind should already be made up! Because they programmed you, be a good little dog or else!

It's part of the psychological methodology of media. They call it 'programming' as it's used to train behavior in both animals and people...

Keep people at a certain state of low-level anxiety as their baseline state to reduce the amount of subject matter that needs time to ponder. No time to buffer through the frontal lobe. Symbolism and basic emotions to go straight to the subsconcious, where it controls everything and cannot be removed. It's there for life.

Then present political issues as an outrage or a deadly crisis, put out imagery of Obama looking 'arrogant,'whatever, with negative words or ideas. Repeat endlessly on ads in youtube videos, sidebars and banners on websites, in the written infocrawl at the bottom of cable programs. After a while the most ardent liberal will realize subsconsciously they are 'on the wrong side' ad determined by the massive input of paid propaganda and self-censor their speech for their own safety in a crowd.

The RW has even been caught using pure subliminal imagery, against Gore in 2000:

An example of how subliminal messages have been used to influence voting behavior is a 2000 television advertisement produced by the Republican National Committee in favor of George Bush during the 2000 U.S. election against Al Gore.

In this ad George W. Bush is shown to criticize Al Gore’s prescription drug plan for senior citizens. The tagline of the ad is: “The Gore prescription plan: Bureaucrats decide.” Then, toward the end of the ad, the word RATS appears in oversized letters for 1/13th of a second while an off-screen voice reiterates the phrase, “Bureaucrats decide” (watch video below).
**

Bush Campaign 'Rats' Subliminal Message

Bush's RX plan was a financial disaster designed to bankrupt Medicare and to enrich his friends. The donut hole was inserted and millions could not afford it. He ruined the CHIP and Medicaid programs in Texas, gutted social services by stealth with no debate, by defunding them, a technique which Grover Nordquist to starve the beast and end all representative government so that control of public assets will be in private hands only, with no accountability or laws to stop them abusing people. That's textbook fascism.

The RW promote negative attitudes toward government and no other solutions in most cases. Which induces fear and uncertainty, a psychological dependency leading to need a 'strong leader' and simplistic solutions that will destroy communities and individuals.

We can't resist subliminals without education on their usage in media. We need to think about the current state of media which is not giving us news, it is just influencing our opinions so we as Democrats will vote or not vote, a highly valued result that always will benefit conservatives.

As many stories are directed against Democrats to depress their emotional state all year long in process pioneered by CREEP and Donald Segretti and has worked every election season since Nixon. It's worth the read for any politically attuned person or activist:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Segretti

It's on media everyday, with millions of dollars spent to discourage liberals from voting Democratic, from all angles. The less sophisticated methods spew RW talking points. But the more sophiscated use LW points to distress liberals. It's more effective than the RW on getting liberals out of public life in their communities and out of the voting booth.

Okay, got pretty far off field from cookies, but I hate it when RWNJ lies make these zombies go after children and make them afraid to sell their products to people. I've seen that fear in their eyes and I always make sure that I am very welcoming to these girls when I see them outside stores.

It really gets me riled up!

**Link to italicized paragraph, primarily exposing sexual themes to get attention, to go straight to the subsconcious. The lower part of the page covers the use of subliminals in political messaging:

The mass brainwashing that happens in this country every day is truly disheartening. The only reason I would ever believe in a religion would be to see the perpetrators burning in hell which has reservations for RW liars on RW talk radio and television. I truly despise them. I despise anyone who misleads for sport and money.

...so I have to watch my sugar intake. But I buy the cookies anyway, eating one or two occasionally for a snack with a cup of coffee . Boy, talk about "will power"! Gone are the days that I would eat my way through half a box at a sitting. But, that recklessness is probably what got me into this shape.

So, I have to practice moderation, a tough task for an old Texan. I think I'll carry the Girl Scout Cookie box with me whenever I go out for a cup of coffee. I might run into a politically hard-right neighbor or two that I can rankle while munching on a cookie. Who says old folks can't have a life of excitement? But on a very small scale.

Now I'm going to have to buy my share and 4 or 5 RWNJ's share now. Oh darn!

On another note, a couple weeks ago I went in to one of our locally-owned hardware stores (yes, they still exist) and the Girl Scouts were sitting outside the entrance. I noticed there was a steady stream of customers at their table. I'm thinking RWNJ's boycott, as has been true with their other boycotts, hasn't had much effect.

I buy boxes of Samoas and give them as gifts to friends or people who have done nice things for me.

Everyone loves them and when you give them to people it makes them happy, although it's an, "oh. well, there goes my diet" moment. My physical therapists are getting my last box later today.

Actually, this is the second box I bought for them, I ended up eating the first box, and had to get more. It's one of the drawbacks of buying GS cookies for gifting.

Thus the hostility to journalism, education, and science. If you want a lot of compatriots basing their logic on things like fear, tribalism, and superstition, you've got to get them young.

I like the Girl Scouts much better than the Boy Scouts. Not because they are a secret army of lesbian communists-in-training (we could only hope) but because they seem less obsessed with God and fascist-y flavor overall.

And their cookies are delicious. I now abstain (mostly) from the deadly addictive Carmel Delights, and stick with the pure rush of Peanut Butter Sandwiches. Another in our house -- a former high-merit badge-count Girl Scout herself -- requires Thin Mints in reasonable quantities.
