14 S.F. gang suspects indicted in violent crime spree
(03-13) 20:38 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Fourteen alleged members of the Sureños gang in San Francisco have been indicted by a federal grand jury on racketeering and conspiracy charges for a series of violent crimes, including a shooting death in 2011, court records show.
The defendants were named in an indictment unsealed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco. It accuses them of conspiring to kill rival Norteño gang members and alleges that two defendants, Jairo Hernandez and Carlos Vasquez, of murder in aid of racketeering activity for killing a victim on Aug. 30, 2011.
The indictment doesn't name the victim. On that date, however, two men were shot and killed in the city.
About 12:30 a.m., 22-year-old Gaspar Puch-tzek of San Francisco, a cook at the Hogs & Rocks restaurant, was shot while taking a smoking break outside the establishment at 3431 19th St. The father of two died at San Francisco General Hospital. San Francisco police have said Puch-tzek was mistaken for a member of the Sureño gang by two men who approached him outside the restaurant, one of whom shot him.
