CNN, already a joke for years... okay, decades, is cracking me up with their current Kent Brockman routine.

For a week, every time they have come out of commercial or started a new show they flash the BREAKING NEWS sign, portending the end of the world, and then announce that the "fast breaking news at this hour" is precisely, word for word, the "fast breaking" news from six hours earlier.

And then, to really make it fun, the BREAKING NEWS is often not news at all. I don't mean merely not timely, I mean not news. Not what any legitimate journalistic enterprise has ever called "news."

The Kill your kids to spare them the horrors of Armageddon BREAKING NEWS on CNN has been, for the last many hours in a row, that some un-named person is thinking about something.

Anonymous officials tell CNN that they are looking into... that they are considering, discussing or generally kicking around... shooting the shit about... the idea that some particular thing happened to that damn airplane.

Earlier, the "news" was that US officials are "looking into" the "possibility" that lithium batteries "might have" been implicated.

1. The *Breaking News* brand has been permanently discredited.

Back in the day, broadcasters would interrupt programming for breaking news. It meant something then. Today they confuse breaking news with breaking wind.

3. What does 'breaking' even mean?

Think about it...
These entertainment shows, calling themselves news shows, seem to think that peoples' lives happen for THEM.

4. Are you referring to the "Missing Jet" Channel?

If I were to try to gauge world events this week by CNN, there was one new story about a missing jet and nothing else.

5. On top of which one cannot even SEE whatever the hell they are pointing to

because of the banner than takes up 1/3 of the bottom of the screen, and the uper crawl banner that takes up 1/4 at the top
and the 2 or more little "things" showing the station,etc.
I do not undertand how anyone can bear to look at the screens.
