Good for him! Last week, the Republican-controlled Wisconsin State Assembly moved to shorten early voting in every jurisdiction in the state. This blatant attempt to limit Democratic votes did not go over well with one longtime Republican, State Sen. Dale Schultz, who lashed out at his fellow Republicans for their blatant voter suppression. We applaud him for speaking out.

(84,057 posts)I'm shocked to, bsister.
I am relieved to know that not every member of the GOP is brain dead. A few may still have a few brain cells that are functioning.

I kinda wish DU would stop promoting him.
He ran for Congress once, and may do so again, taking on Ron Kind. (or he may be in Baldwin's district now, I am not sure of current district maps).

(724 posts)I worked in the legislature, he's only right on two or three issues and they don't make up for the multitude on which he is wrong.

(111,437 posts)which has finally given him the ability to speak out against his radicalized, utterly fascist party.
He will undoubtedly be joined by others.

(40,372 posts)If he was going to run and expressed such sentiment, he'd be "primaried" in a New York minute.

(81,594 posts)Nice that he finally spoke up. Did he try to rally some of his colleagues? Did he speak out sooner? Did he do ANYTHING that might have made a difference? And now he's bailing out? Well, that's cute. Hey, GOPers who've finally seen the light, show me RESULTS I can cheer about. Come out of the darkness and BRING A FEW MORE saved souls with you. Show me THAT. Show me how you helped reverse the bad trend or rehabilitated a few of the sick on your side or converted a few political heathens. Not nice platitudes that gain me nothing.

(2,256 posts)He voted with the Dems quite a few times since GOP/TP took over our State Legislature.... he voted to expand Medciaid and against the union busting Act 10 of Gov Scooter Walker.... and a possible gain is that maybe, just maybe a few voters that read what he has said will change and not vote GOP in midterms.

(7,299 posts)The Republicans realize that the demographics are changing in a way that doesn't bode well for their political future. These short term gimmicks that they employ will do nothing but skew those demographics even farther away from them in the long term. Desperation on display.

(650 posts)I miss having Republicans around, I really do. Once in a while a Republican makes an appearance and really demonstrates the difference between "Republicans" as I remember them versus "Right Wing Fuckwads" who run the House of Representatives and most State houses these days.
