Christie's Self-Exoneration Contains A Damaging Detailby Eric Lach at Talking Points Memo

The former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey executive who orchestrated the September lane closures on the George Washington Bridge claims to have told Gov. Chris Christie (R) about the closures while they were happening, according to a report released Thursday by a legal team representing the governor's office.
The report, which concluded that Christie "did not know of the lane realignment beforehand and had no involvement in the decision to realign the lanes," indicates that as the scandal began to escalate in December, former Port Authority David Wildstein began "feeling vulnerable, knew he would have to resign, and then did." At the time Wildstein was still telling the Governor's Office that the lane had been closed as the result of a traffic study, an explanation that has since been abandoned by the Port Authority and the Christie administration.
"While [Wildstein] continued to insist to the Governors Office that this was a legitimate traffic study, even if flawed in its execution, and admitted that this was his 'idea,' he tried to deflect blame, telling [Christie spokesperson Michael] Drewniak that he had not acted alone, identifying [former Christie deputy chief of staff Bridget] Kelly and [former Christie campaign manager Bill] Stepien as others who knew, and claiming he had emails to prove it," the report states.
The report then states that Wildstein told Christie about the "traffic issue in Fort Lee" at a public event that occurred while the lane closures were happening, but that Christie could not recall the interaction.

You don't just begin lying that well with a straight face while looking people in the eye, that takes a lot of practice and skill.
If I were his wife, I'd be checking his stories out on a personal basis. On the other hand, I've seen his wife....hmmmm!

He's not really that good a liar.

(145,839 posts)I have done a number of deals with Gibson Dunn and they have some good attorneys. This report is very very weak.
You don't expect his lawyer to write a report indicting him - the entire report is laying the groundwork and trying to get ahead of the serious investigations.
I have no doubt that the judge is about to rule that those documents have to be handed over.
That's why the dumb report was more about trashing Bridget Kelly in the nastiest of ways - she has to be discredited.
Sadly the report has made this worse - these nasty, vindictive ReTHUG scumbags do not have one shred of credibility left.
Christie is history!! The tax-payers were robbed. I hope they end up impeaching the scumbag.

(145,839 posts)These reports are done all of the time with respect to investigations of issues where a shareholder is making a derivative claim against the board and the company. Such reports are always done in a very even handed method if the company is going to get any benefit from these reports.
The Christie report was not such a report and was released yesterday so that Christie could fly to Vegas to try to get Sheldon Adelson's support for his 2016 run.

(15,682 posts)Christy went into a wordy explanation about how he "may" have been told about the "traffic issue in Fort Lee" but that it would not have meant anything to him at the time. Sounds to me like this story was fabricated well ahead of time.

(15,189 posts)The million dollars it cost the tax payers for this bogus report. Why does he waste the time and money, "I Don't Know". Take it Mr. Hand.
