A U.S. appeals court on Thursday upheld a Texas law that places restrictions on abortions, saying a provision requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital was a reasonable regulation.
Those opposed to the law have said it is a veiled attempt to limit abortions by imposing costly and unnecessary regulations, adding that the law may be copied by other states trying to limit abortions within their borders.
A federal judge erred last year in blocking the law, a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit found. The U.S. Supreme Court later allowed it to go into effect.
"The district court's opinion took the wrong approach to the rational basis test," the 5th Circuit's decision said.

(15,189 posts)It just amazes me how something like this doesn't get a 68% vote turn out to eliminate the GOP. Where is the outrage? Being stuck with an unwanted baby is prison for both mother and child.

(21,755 posts)Taking them away like this has become common and yet even here at DU we welcome those that are all for this. The war on women marches forward... And very few will even acknowledge it much less give a crap.

(45,483 posts)all the ridiculous hyperbole.
It certainly is not helping.
And... There most certainly are people on DU that are anti-choice, also there are those on DU that firmly believe that women not only have equal rights but that it is men who are oppressed. It is not one bit hyperbole... They are allowed here.

(114,904 posts)I've posted a lot of ops about legislative and other setbacks re choice without getting a response. That's true of the vast majority of posts here by anyone about choice.

the constant bashing of Democrats. Choice and other women's issues are no different than labor, the environment, work safety, etc in that regard. People would rather moan about 3-way corporate, bankster-funded politicians than talk about ANYTHING meaningful.

I don't support laws that restrict abortion.
I do support laws that provide safety for patients though. While this law could potentially be abused to limit abortions, I think it does have a core safety basis to be considered.

(23,224 posts)Its purpose, pure and simple and undiluted, was to restrict access to abortion--a constitutional right, infringed by state action.

(114,904 posts)You've swallowed the right wing bait, hook, line and sinker.
The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, The AMA and virtually every other non-fundie medical association OPPOSES these laws. They have all said they have fucking nothing to do with women's health are safety and are only used as impediments to a woman's right to an abortion. These are TRAP laws- targeted regulation of abortion providers- used to shut down clinics.
fuck I hate seeing people swallow right wing shit.

See what happens when you can't control which chromosome your father gives you at fertilization. If only your father shot nothing but Y chromosomes, then you uppity fe-males would matter.

Do you have anything to say about the subject/issue of the OP?

(114,904 posts)first of all before you say something irrevocably... silly- oops never mind that one- I suggest you check my posting history. I've written more than a few highly critical ops on Greenwald.
Furthemore, my dearest friend, I've said repeatedly I don't see Snowden as a hero and that whether he's the devil incarnate is irrelevant to me. Oh, and no I haven't called President Obama anything like that. Wow. you're batting zero, as always, whisp. Impressive. A round of applause for you.
If you're going to go off on a bitter ugly tangent, brilliantly displaying to all who read it that you care more at flinging shit at me than you do this vital issue- or any issue, at least get some facts straight. oh, never mind. It's YOU.
Nothing I could say portrays you in such a glaring naked light as that which you have turned on yourself.

(114,904 posts)this law has forced women to give birth to unwanted children who will grow up disadvantaged in numerous ways.
This is the most important appeals decision re abortion rights that we've seen, and it's horrible. terrible.
this is looking like the law that may go to SCOTUS.
I've been preaching for years here that TARP laws are FAR more dangerous than the nutty constitutional amendments declaring that life begins at conception that never get enacted and never will under Roe. These horrible TRAP laws? That's a different (legal) story
