1,300+ lost power... it was primitive.... we lived through it

OK it was only an hour. The temp was just above freezing. So we lit some candles, battery power, and the old emergency oil lamp. I hate posting on my cell phone, so I've just been reading. 4G sure ain't wi-fi.

It does point out that those in colder temps this winter that were out for several days at a time had it very bad. The last real long outage for us was Oct. 1997. That was three days after a snow and ice storm.

was enough to get my grandson stuck coming into the drive.

I understand where you are coming from - not too long ago the electricity was out for about an hour and my three great-grandchildren were very upset. No it wasn't night and dark. They could no understand why grandma could not turn on the television. Primitive indeed.

The news hasn't yet reported what happened. The power company site is where we got the outage number.

We didn't really get snow. Just light rain all day. High winds yesterday knocked out several thousand homes and businesses in the area.

The longest stretch was 6 days after an ice storm. Usually it is only between 4 and 24 hours. When they call for bad weather, I fill both bathtubs and make sure the lanterns, flashlights and candles are all out in the open just in case. We always have bottled water on hand but when bad weather is called for we fill a 5 gallon plastic water bottle as well. I keep our grill on the front porch all winter because there is a roof over it. That way I can still cook. We have an all electric house since it is cheaper than oil and bottled gas. So keeping the grill there instead of putting it away is a must. I have camping gear that makes it possible to make coffee and toast on the grill too. That old percolator comes in handy when there is no power. The strange part is this has been the worst winter I can ever remember and I am 70.

I have a battery operated radio for news, several LED head lamps, and plenty to do, all to music on my portable CD player.

Head lamps are the best things, ever.

I keep a spark lighter around for the stove since the spark igniter requires it to be plugged in.

A problem with a couple of transformers briefly knocked out electricity to approximately 1,500 customers around Bellevue Thursday night.

The issue involved transformers on Bellevue Boulevard.

With temperatures falling, power was restored within an hour.
