Beacon police: Intoxicated mother slammed baby into sidewalk

A 33-year-old New Jersey woman who allegedly threw her infant daughter onto a City of Beacon sidewalk is due in court Friday.

...

Edwina M. Negron, whose last known address was in Bergen County, N.J., was on Wednesday observed by witnesses throwing her daughter to the ground twice near the intersection of Verplanck Avenue and Willow Street, Lucato said. Officers arrived and Negron threw the child down again, Lucato said. On that occasion, the child’s head struck the sidewalk.

Negron tested positive for cocaine, opiates, methadone and marijuana, and was “highly intoxicated,” Lucato said. She was charged with second-degree assault, a felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. She remained in Dutchess County Jail Thursday night on $100,000 bail or $250,00 bond.
