Nikita Kruschev and John F. Kennedy agreed during the missile crisis to make concessions to each other: JFK would vow not to invade Cuba and to withdraw missiles from Turkey, while Russia withdrew all its missiles from Cuba.
Only years later did we know that the deal was reached.

I'm certain that the appropriate people are working on a deal now. If it is something that involves a treaty, it must be ratified. We certainly will know the terms of any such agreement.

(8,377 posts)This would not be a treaty. It would be a secret agreement. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, considering we don't really have a compelling national interest here.

(37,364 posts)with other nations who are part of NATO, an alliance established by a treaty? Still think waiting before ginning up the old outrage machine is prudent. I am not a fan of another war in the world.

(37,364 posts)have registered their concerns about further encroachments westward. I can see the concern so any moves to rachet things down should be welcomed over the hair-trigger response of the neocons.

(8,377 posts)Again, where is AMERICA's national interest here? And who are the people who are in charge in Kiev? If Obama can make a secret deal that quiets things down, that's the best outcome, I think.
