5-1 leave, the reason for the alert on Manny's thread is here.
On Mon Mar 31, 2014, 08:26 PM an alert was sent on the following post:
vote no to fud
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4761431
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Linking to a locked post. It was locked for a reason.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Mar 31, 2014, 08:39 PM, and the Jury voted 1-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: You can link to a locked post, although it makes you look like an idiot.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Is linking to anything in a locked thread against the rules? If I knew it was, I might have selected "hide". But the post in question appears to me to be just some random person making an off topic post that was duly ignored by the community at large, which is why I just say ignore it.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Linking to a locked post is the reason for this alert, seriously? I think not. The reason IMHO was the person that made the alert didn't like the topic at the link. "The Dem bashing on DU protest. Put them on ignore", Hmmm I think that might very well have hit a nerve on the alerter. Shame on you.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I think this idea of mopinko's is really dumb, but I don't think that linking to a dumb idea, even if the post was locked, is an automatic jury hide.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Haz a sad is now flamebait!
Please do read it~ Actually it was a pretty disgusting thread!

(72,300 posts)My post with the link was alerted on. The jury let my post stand.
What is DU's policy on linking to a hidden post and/or a hidden thread?
btw~ I just RECed the locked thread.
MADem
(135,425 posts)If the admins didn't want us expressing our views with the "rec" feature, they would disable it when the thread was locked.
They don't do that, though. This is certainly not the first--nor will it be the last--time people have rec'd a locked thread. It's a popular way to express the sentiment. In this case, the sentiment is that there's too much anti-Dem negativity happening lately; too much meanspiritedness. It's not the differing views that are troubling so much as it's the way those views are expressed--with vitriol and cruel language. Disagreeing while being very disagreeable!
The person who alerted on you should be ashamed of themselves. That's also disagreeing AND being disagreeable. No need for that kind of conduct.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)Thank you. The hidden post has been talked about several times without a link so that the hidden post actually sounds worse than it was.
MADem
(135,425 posts)MOST hosts get what their role is, but a very few hosts need to get the spirit, too. The hosts shouldn't be worrying about ANYTHING that happens below the first post in a thread. Their charge is that post that starts the thread, not where the thread goes after the fact, even if it goes completely off the rails into kooky territory. And their ONLY role is to determine if the post matches the statement of purpose for that group or forum; not if the post is disruptive or jerky or anything of that nature.
Some hosts want to be moderators/enforcers of standards outside the forum/group SOP, and that's just not their jobs.
The stuff below the first post is for juries, and juries alone--unless the admins want to jump in. And even if the first post is jerky but meets the SOP, it's a jury's job to smack that down.
Cha
(297,772 posts)I've been linking to locked posts all over the place this last week.. I can see no reason why that should not be allowed.
MADem
(135,425 posts)The rec feature is a way for DUers to express how they feel about a subject, locked or not. It's an important mechanism for the group, IMO.
Cha
(297,772 posts)unless I dreamed it.
But, what about linking to Locked posts.. that's okay too, right? 'Cause like I said.. I've been linking to locked posts up a storm these past two weeks!
MADem
(135,425 posts)linking to a locked post. And some locks are complete bullshit and in the course of chit-chat inside a thread, there's nothing wrong with pointing that out.
We don't have "rules" anymore. We have the TOS and the community standards, and neither one says anything that says "No linking to locked posts."
If you're explaining something, or pointing something out, or making note of something, and it's in a locked thread or the very post is locked, so long as you aren't being rude, disruptive, hurtful, etc., etc., the only person who would have a problem with it would be someone following you around looking to "get" you in some fashion. It would have to be a disgusting, racist, hate-filled rant, with the linker APPROVING of the message, for me to vote to hide, I think.
I believe that, for example, if a poster said, sanctimoniously, "Why, I would never, EVER say that Michelle Obama looks bad in plaid!!!" and you know of a locked post where that same poster said "Michelle Obama looked like a sofa in that plaid coat!!!" then it would be completely appropriate to point out that the poster was BSing with their first statement.
No one has a "right" to be protected from their own hypocrisy. And if they try to alert on you for pointing out their own hypocrisy, I'd hope that the admins took note of that, since they see all the alerts, anyway.
