What Conservative Media Are Getting Wrong About Guns On Military Bases

MYTH: Clinton To Blame For Military Base Gun Regulations

Fox News: Clinton Administration Decided Trained Military Professionals Shouldn't Carry Arms On Base. On the April 3 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, co-host Steve Doocy claimed that gun regulations which restrict firearms on military bases were enacted under President Clinton's administration:

FACT: First Bush Administration Enacted Military Base Gun Regulations

MYTH: Military Bases Are "Gun-Free Zones" That Leave Soldiers "Defenseless"

Fox Contributor Allen West: "Our Military Bases Shouldn't Be Free Fire Zones." In a tweet posted April 2, Fox News contributor and former GOP congressman Allen West labeled military bases "free fire zones," where service members are "sitting ducks":

FACT: Authorized Personnel May Carry Guns On Military Bases

All of those are classified gun free zones in most cities and states. The exact same for military bases. The general population on a military base is not allowed by rules and regulations to carry firearms. So yes bases are gun free just like a school.

part in the Fort Hood regulation, "Authorized Exceptions". Does not apply here though.

Traveling through Fort Hood from an off-post location to another off-post location
(example: Killeen to Gatesville via Fort Hood).

can tell you that all firearms were locked away in the unit armory when there was no legitimate reason for us to have them in our possession. This included both our service weapons, which we would be issued without live ammunition for training exercises (or with ammo for annual weapon qualifications), and personal arms such as deer rifles, which we could use for hunting (including carefully supervised hunting on post). You checked the weapon out, and you checked it back in. Troops on post do not run around with guns unless they are MP's or something like that.

Bush and Cheney issued a directive in 1992. In March of 1993 Clinton and the DoD implemented it. So to say Clinton had nothing to do with it is not true. he was CIC just like Bush I. That said the two that followed Bush II and Obama both could have repealed it but did not.
