http://a2.img.talkingpointsmemo.com/image/upload/c_fill,fl_keep_iptc,g_faces,h_365,w_652/jsk7fzjq1oujnmszuqci.pnghe U.S. Postal Service will release a postage stamp featuring gay rights icon and former San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk on May 22, Harvey Milk Day, Linns Stamp News reported Monday.
The stamp will be the first to feature an openly-gay elected official, and it will contain an image of the LGBT rights rainbow flag.
Officials are considering San Francisco and Washington, D.C. as potential opening day cities, according to Linns.
Milk was the first openly gay official to person to be elected to a political office in California. He won a seat on San Francisco's Board of Supervisors in 1977, and was assassinated in 1978 by a former city supervisor.

(18,628 posts)I'm kidding of course.
I live across the street from the post office and always walk over to buy special editions to grace the envelopes of my bills. I hate the standard issue Forever Stamp with the flag that everyone else uses. Lately they haven't had much at all, and I'm currently using Harry Potter stamps. I'm not gay, but I haven't read a single book by JK Rowling either.
I'll absolute ask for this stamp next time.
Thanx for posting!

(34,582 posts)too bad I de-friended him to his right wing and anti-gay statements.

(34,582 posts)he was a bit dickish. I didn't realize what a right wing asshole he was until FB. I moved to Texas in 92, and I wasn't very politically active then. On the bright side, I am still in contact with my other uncle, who is still a good old hippie at heart

(6,151 posts)Always liked him anyway, and it doesn't hurt that he bore a passing resemblance to someone else I adore - Peter Coyote. That's not the important thing, of course, but it's still very charming.
