We keep a heated bird bath during the winter. The birds drink and bath - sometimes - the squirrels drink.
So it is fascinating to see how the water kept the 9" of snow from last night at bay.

(8,830 posts)Don't they freeze when they get out? I love that you have a heated bird bath for them.

Is there a restaurant (bird feeder) associated with it?
question everything
(47,476 posts)Hard to see, this is a long shot. Feeders, of course, have to be close to a tree. The heated bath has to be close to the house. Even with an extension cord.
The mess in front of the apple tree is from the seeds in a tube, above, and from a platform at the bottom. On the right there is a smaller feeder hanging from a poll.
Yes, in the middle of the winter it appeared that we were the only game in town. Even a wounded crow was hobbling along.
Now, they are all gone. Tending to their nests, I suppose.

(19,459 posts)That whooshing sound you hear is the fact that you got 9" of snow last night going right over my head!
Hope Spring makes an appearance in your neighborhood real soon.

(16,167 posts)we have the same birds coming back years on now. A pair of cardinals, 2 pair of bluejays, doves, little wrens, and thrushes and other misc feathered friends.
They get pretty demanding about supper time most days, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I put cut lengths of twine out for them to build with. The jays and doves are really keen on that. Where the nests are, I haven't a clue

(4,940 posts)We put it up when the weather gets really cold, 25 below and down, because it's a rigid plastic - but the rest of the year? All the neighborhood birdies that winter over love it!
