When I watched the live coverage of the signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Executive Order today, I was impressed by how eloquent and genuine Ledbetter (and her story)was and how rousing the spirit and sight of all those women joyfully celebrating looked. The "optics" as they say were brilliant. Obama was magnetic in his statements on pay equity. This was a winner for Democrats!
If you take the attraction of the Democratic agenda on women's pay, and add the minimum wage fight and extension of unemployment insurance, along with the successes of Obamacare, you have FOUR areas largely affecting the voters you want to come to the polls in November: women (esp. unmarried), young voters, families, the long-term unemployed you have a strong hand in the upcoming election.
As for the "fixing" Obamacare meme, I would suggest instead using the word "strengthening." It is more positive. "Fixing" sounds defensive (because it is).
It is now obvious that the Republicans got nuthin' to offer in response to these proposals. It is astonishing that they think they can beat something with nothing.
Let's rethink this fall's campaign strategy for our Democrats running in all the House and a third of the Senate races...

(63,911 posts)The economy and health care are the two areas that voters care about the most. You can't get much more basic than people's paychecks, ability to pay their bills and buy food, and having health care when they need it.
Pretty basic stuff if you ask me...

(63,911 posts)felt that way, too. It wasn't that they DID want to return to pre-existing conditions and the donut-hole, they know damn well that extending health care to more people is a damn good thing. And here's the deal: republicans don't have a plan to offer in response. So we "strengthen" a good thing!

(63,911 posts)effective way. Surely those districts have unmarried women, young voters, unemployed people, and workers who simply can't make it on the current minimum wage. Plus, those who need health care. These are the folks we need to get to the polls. It adds up.
