Poll: Republican Guvs Trail Dem Challengers In 5 Races

Poll: Republican Guvs Trail Dem Challengers In 5 Races

A new set of polls by Public Policy Polling finds Republicans on the defensive in a number of governor's races.

The polls, conducted by the Democratic-leaning PPP on behalf of MoveOn.org found the Democratic candidates in Maine, Kansas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Florida leading the Republican candidates.

• In Maine PPP found Republican Gov. Paul LePage (pictured) trailing Rep. Mike Michaud (D) 37 percent to 44 percent.

• In Kansas, Gov. Sam Brownback (R) trails Democratic gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis 41 percent to 45 percent.

• In Pennsylvania, Gov. Tom Corbett (R) is behind the generic potential Democratic candidate by double digits. PPP found Corbett trailing the generic candidate 56 percent to 34 percent.

• In the Georgia gubernatorial race, state Sen. Jason Carter (D) just barely leads Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal (R) 43 percent to 42 percent.

• In Florida, former Gov. Charlie Crist (D) leads Gov. Rick Scott (R), 49 percent to 42 percent.

but Susana la Tejana has managed to keep a low profile since the debacle her first week in office, when she tried to overturn environmental laws by fiat and the courts slapped her down vigorously.

Even though she didn't manage to make the state more Koch friendly, they'll probably keep supporting her handsomely.

I got Medicaid recently, with almost no effort. (Thanks,
Obama!!) First ever health insurance.

I have been feeling kindly toward her, on that account,
in contrast with the other Republican governors.

But I need to be educated about why, apart from being
Republican, she's no good.. and I have heard the Kochs
haven't given up on NM by a long shot, but I don't
recall where.. something recent however.

I'm not being negative. I'm excited to see that the race is a virtual tie. And this is another indication that Georgia is one of those states that are going to slowly turn purple.

Demographics are at play. The old white southern racists are dying off. The influx of people from more moderate states is beginning to show its effect in politics. And young people are increasingly frustrated with Republicans that are socially intolerant.

Not to mention that Georgia has had one party government for the past 13 years and the state has gone to the dogs (no offense to dogs intended). The state's economy which relied heavily on agriculture (the largest industry in the state), transportation and construction (both commercial and residential) fell apart after 2008.

The Republicans scared many of the migrant farm workers out of the state and the state's agricultural businesses are still struggling to find workers. Transportation was hard hit and remains depressed. The residential construction business is coming back but slowly and the impact of the anti-Hispanic actions is affecting this industry as well.

I would love to see Carter upset Deal. The recent jury award of $700K to a former commissioner on the state ethics committee was awarded because the jurors believed that her actions to actually investigate alleged illegal activity by Deal's 2010 campaign resulted in her being terminated for political reasons. That might have some traction.

They will come up with some bullshit spin to show how these polls are wrong. Honest to God. if I heard "Liberal Media" one more time, I'm going to vomit on the Republican who said it's face.

I'm very surprised that Walker would be up by 15 is Wisconsin. Also, what about Ohio? Will Republicans really elect Governors in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Iowa -- all States Obama won twice.

Something I have been saying for awhile, look for Democrats to be stronger in the South than has been the tradition for the last several election cycles -- just reading between the lines.
