..........................
David KochWhat else do the Koch brothers want?
In 1980, David Koch ran as the Libertarian Partys vice-presidential candidate in 1980.
:medium
Lets take a look at the 1980 Libertarian Party platform.
Here are just a few excerpts of the Libertarian Party platform that David Koch ran on in 1980:
We urge the repeal of federal campaign finance laws, and the immediate abolition of the despotic Federal Election Commission.
We favor the abolition of Medicare and Medicaid programs.
We oppose any compulsory insurance or tax-supported plan to provide health services, including those which finance abortion services.
We also favor the deregulation of the medical insurance industry.
We favor the repeal of the fraudulent, virtually bankrupt, and increasingly oppressive Social Security system. Pending that repeal, participation in Social Security should be made voluntary.
We propose the abolition of the governmental Postal Service. The present system, in addition to being inefficient, encourages governmental surveillance of private correspondence. Pending abolition, we call for an end to the monopoly system and for allowing free competition in all aspects of postal service.
We oppose all personal and corporate income taxation, including capital gains taxes.
We support the eventual repeal of all taxation.
As an interim measure, all criminal and civil sanctions against tax evasion should be terminated immediately.
We support repeal of all law which impede the ability of any person to find employment, such as minimum wage laws.
We advocate the complete separation of education and State. Government schools lead to the indoctrination of children and interfere with the free choice of individuals. Government ownership, operation, regulation, and subsidy of schools and colleges should be ended.
We condemn compulsory education laws and we call for the immediate repeal of such laws.
We support the repeal of all taxes on the income or property of private schools, whether profit or non-profit.
We support the abolition of the Environmental Protection Agency.
We support abolition of the Department of Energy.
We call for the dissolution of all government agencies concerned with transportation, including the Department of Transportation.
We demand the return of America's railroad system to private ownership. We call for the privatization of the public roads and national highway system.
We specifically oppose laws requiring an individual to buy or use so-called "self-protection" equipment such as safety belts, air bags, or crash helmets.
We advocate the abolition of the Federal Aviation Administration.
We advocate the abolition of the Food and Drug Administration.
We support an end to all subsidies for child-bearing built into our present laws, including all welfare plans and the provision of tax-supported services for children.
We oppose all government welfare, relief projects, and aid to the poor programs. All these government programs are privacy-invading, paternalistic, demeaning, and inefficient. The proper source of help for such persons is the voluntary efforts of private groups and individuals.
We call for the privatization of the inland waterways, and of the distribution system that brings water to industry, agriculture and households.
We call for the repeal of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
We call for the abolition of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
We support the repeal of all state usury laws.
In other words, the agenda of the Koch brothers is not only to defund Obamacare. The agenda of the Koch brothers is to repeal every major piece of legislation that has been signed into law over the past 80 years that has protected the middle class, the elderly, the children, the sick, and the most vulnerable in this country.
..................................
Tomorrow it will be Social Security, ending Medicare as we know it, repealing the minimum wage. It seems to me that the Koch brothers will not be content until they get everything they believe they are entitled to.
Our great nation can no longer be hijacked by right-wing billionaires like the Koch brothers.
For the sake of our children and our grandchildren, for the sake of our economy, we have got to let democracy prevail.

(53,661 posts)It wasn't always this way. Such things were minor as far as networks were concerned, they were what people paid to see at the movies or listen to music on the radio.
Now the eye candy is so pervasive, it's in school text books as if it mattered. It doesn't. The same goes for the stories of just how awful or stupid some people are. It keeps the babblers busy.
What matters is who owns the media, resources and influences people to vote for their agenda, not ours. I look at media inversely, as when many were protesting the Iraq War that was totally blacked out. Instead of covering the life and deaths of many, some celebrity's drug induced death spiral was on the news 24/7. The appeal is to personality, and not political reality.
The adage of the mushroom says that they keep us in the dark and feed us bullshit. We can argue about the quality of the bullshit, but we're still in the dark, that's what is missed every time.

I'm sure it you cornered them on it they could show you they've made all their money legally. << Notice that I did not say they made it morally - but I'll bet they are clear legally. And that is what is wrong with this economic system. It not only allows but ENCOURAGES this greed and it's accompanying behaviors. They need to go, but so does capitalism itself.

(18,186 posts)But people in the US are SOOOO stupid, they don't remember from day to day just how bad de-regulation hurts us.
The whole financial meltdown was a result of just the sort of anarchy the Kochsuckers want for this nation.
Why don't those two assholes move to Somalia, where there is no regulation? They would be far happier.
A pox on both of these piss ants. For real. I hope all their hatred for the US is turned back on them and they rot from the inside.
TODAY would not be soon enough for them to drop dead.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)because here in the US, the cost of their (physical and economic) security is largely paid for by others. In Somalia, the koches would have to provide for their own physical security (e.g., hire a large private security force and pay them more than the mercenaries could get by kidnapping them) and they know that there is no way to protect their economic security (e.g., no courts).
Tsiyu
(18,186 posts)education system ( to teach their workers how to read and do math, ) our highway system, to transport their goods to market and to bring in materials and to bring their workers to the jobsite; they don't mind freeloading off our court system, our water systems, our law enforcement systems,, and in fact were able to make their vast wealth by exploiting all these perks paid for by the commoner.
You're absolutely right. These two cretins only want to exploit a system that's already set up and paid for, with zero contribution on their part, despite all their affluence depending on the tax-paying commoners they despise.

(9,090 posts)the left's biggest political mistake in history, considering the time lost on global warming, is their total ignorance of the koch's best weapon- rw talk radio
everything on that list has been blasted out in their favor from 1200 radio stations for 25 years while the fucking idiot left would rather listen to a scratched barry manilow cd while they get their poli asses kicked by low tech AM radio
splaining it's as easy as that

clarence thomas was one of rw radio 's successes- it was used to attack his critics, including doing to anita hill what limbaugh did to sandra fluke.
i think if there had been a left reaction to get anita hills back like the rush boycott today rw radio would be nowhere near as effective and scotus would be quite different today.
the eft's ignorance of rw radio, giving it a free speech free ride, is why we're in this disaster today.
look here at how gov scott walker/ALEC uses it in wisconsin- the same is happening in every state to some extent:

(26,620 posts)they were a fun party bunch. We took a trip to NYC from DC to work on campaigns for John Lindsay's mayoral campaign and Rockefeller for Gov. But the conservatives were among us and they were nuts. One went on to be a US Congressman for about 30 years before beaten in a primary by a teabagger... haha. even crazy Don wasn't crazy enough.

(3,056 posts)It's scary to think the irrational conservatives have been at this for that long, but men like Rove had to start somewhere, I guess. I mean, my late husband had been a life-long Repub until 1992...Buchanan pissed him off at the convention, and he said he "didn't want to be associated with these people anymore". Became a Democrat the next day. But the loony tunes seem to have driven those folks out.

(20,219 posts)Just wow. Unbelievable. How do they think any kind of social structure could exist if you stripped away everything that creates structure?
How do they think the logistics of however many billion people living together would get handled? This is like a house full of kids who don't like rules thinking it would be a good idea to kick out the parents who provide the house and impose discipline best they can.
What full-throttle idiocy. Scary idiocy. Disgusting, selfish idiocy.
