A few days ago I saw 12 Years a Slave. Its a difficult film to watch and has been haunting me ever since. Not that I didnt know about the atrocities of slavery, but its one thing to be aware of the past and another to see the horrors so vividly reenacted.
I have found myself wondering what teabaggers and other far right wing Republicans think of this film (assuming any of them have seen it). The bigotry in the GOP has been front and center ever since Obama was elected. Weve seen him (and others in his administration) savaged by the Republicans, and theres no doubt in my mind that racism is one of their driving motives.
But to get back to 12 Years a Slave, I wonder if any of the wingnuts think of slavery as the good old days. Voter suppression laws that have been passed in many states are nothing more than a return to Jim Crow. And I cant help but wonder how many wingnuts would be all for a return to slavery.
Perhaps my thoughts on this are off the deep end, nonetheless
Id like to hear your opinions regarding the GOP and their racism, whether you've seen the film or not.

(8,020 posts)Those people just want blacks and minorities "in their place". Which is NOT in the voting booth. Or the White House.
Besides, slavery was expensive. Wage-slaves are cheaper...don't have to feed or house them, and the taxpayer picks up part of the tab.....
