1. Greg Abbott showing up on milk cartons, but nowhere else

This blog is one of our DUers. http://brainsandeggs.blogspot.com/2014/04/greg-abbott-showing-up-on-milk-cartons.html

Why is Greg Abbott avoiding the media and canceling appearances?

Every campaign has occasional scheduling problems. Sometimes events or appearances have to be cancelled for a variety of legitimate reasons.

But over the last several weeks, Greg Abbott has cancelled a number of events and has rarely taken press questions at the events he does attend. Clearly something is going on inside the Abbott campaign that’s affecting his willingness to appear in public or personally answer questions from the press.

-- Abbott has refused to meet with editorial boards both during and since the Texas primary.

-- Abbott spent more than three weeks (March 6 – 29) without any public events.
During this period (March 9 – 24) he refused to personally answer any questions on equal pay, even questions regarding salaries within his own AG office.

-- Abbott canceled an April 4th scheduled and publicized address to the Texas Renewal Project, an organization of Christian pastors (I posted about this conference here).

-- Abbott declined an April 5th opportunity to address the Texas AP Managing Editors Association in Padre Island.

-- Abbott’s campaign scheduled an April 7th press conference and Abbott simply failed to appear, not even bothering to send the press a cancellation notice.

It would be easy to imply, and reasonable to assume, that Abbott's campaign is wilting under pressure – especially the ongoing bad press over his bungling of the equal pay issue and his disastrous education policy rollout.

If it is something else – campaign personnel changes, pressing official business or a family issue – then Abbott needs to be forthright and explain in some detail.

If something is seriously wrong, Greg Abbott should say so, and everyone will know what to expect going forward.

Greg is hiding from the press for a reason. I doubt that Murray is the sole reason for this behavior.

I imagine you'll illustrate, compare and contrast the two sets of odds based off of objective, peer-reviewed numbers, and then allow us a conclusion?

However, I do realize many people place a higher priority on Vegas odds rather than their own convictions...

Info:

This year, we have the opportunity to help shape the future of Texas and elect a leader who will listen to the voices of all Texans. Are you ready to get involved and make a difference?

Join Wendy Davis, Mayor Julián Castro, and Team Wendy as we launche our San Antonio neighborhood canvass program! Wendy and our team of volunteers and supporters will be reaching out to our neighbors at their doors and discussing the important choice Texans face in this election. And we need your help!

What: San Antonio Canvass Launch w/ Wendy Davis

Where: Team Wendy Office
1001 Broadway St.
San Antonio, TX 78215

When: Saturday, April 12
9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

RSVP Now

We have a goal of knocking on 48,000 doors in communities across Texas this weekend to help elect Wendy Davis as the 48th governor of Texas. Can you help us meet our goal by getting involved with your neighborhood team?

If you've never volunteered for a campaign before, this is a great way to get involved - canvassing is a blast! Neighbors reaching out to neighbors is the very best thing you can do to help Wendy win in November, and this is your chance to be a part of something big.

You'll meet other Texans committed to great schools, hardworking Texas families, and renewed opportunity for all. You'll get to talk to voters about the issues affecting their lives. And you'll get the satisfaction of doing your part to build an even greater Texas.

I hope you'll join us!

Thank you!

I think the odds of Texas having a female Democratic governor are much, much higher than for Wisconsin to do so. Sadly.

8. Because Abbot is in the lead

He's leading by 12 points in every poll. He doesn't need to fight for votes, or go out and be interviewed. He just has to do next to nothing, and still win.

Wendy could cut that lead in half, difficult given Texas is a stronghold of the Rethugs, but possible. She'd still have an insurmoutable deficit to climb.

All Abbot has to do is not screw up, and by refusing interviews and appearances, he's doing enough to make sure he doesn't screw up. Oh, he'll do a few carefully scripted appearances.

That's why I'm sending what money I have to races we can't afford to lose, like Udall in Colorado, and Hagan in North Carolina. We're going to lose states, and I want to make sure we don't lose control of the Senate. Tossing my money and effort on a truly deserving candidate in a hopeless election is not a good choice, when that same money and effort can keep control of the Senate for us.

All of you who were complaining about the SC decision. Imagine that a seat opens up after the election with a Rethug controlled Senate. Imagine the nominee that President Obama would have to put forth to get the support of the Rethugs to get the confirmation. Imagine Scalia, but nominated by a Dem.

I'm sorry gang, but as awesome as I think Wendy is personally, I think the odds of her winning Texas were always long, and I am thinking of the nation at large and the last two years of the Obama Presidency.
