DYLAN SCOTT APRIL 12, 2014, 10:11 AM EDT
Noting that President Barack Obama said years ago that he opposed gay marriage because of his Christian beliefs, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee openly questioned those beliefs Friday because the president had since changed his position.
Huckabee spoke with Fox New's Laura Ingraham about his own comments regarding same-sex nuptials. He had told an Iowa audience Tuesday that his opposition was "on the right side of the Bible." On Friday, he argued that it was the same stance that Obama had taken in 2008.
"He said it was because of his Christian convictions. Does he have them or does he not?" Huckabee told Ingraham. "If one has them, they don't change depending on what the culture does. You don't take an opinion poll to come up with a new point of view."
He laid out three possible scenarios to explain the president's change of heart: "Were you lying then or are you lying now or did the Bible get re-written?"

(23,664 posts)beyond the vague generalization that it's the right thing to do. But he is a politician and his 2008 statement opposing same sex marriage based on his "Christian beliefs" was probably made in hopes of getting a few votes from the religious wacko demographic.
Now that he's older and wiser, he probably realizes the nut jobs will never support anything he does and he can shore up his support among the thinking people by taking a pro gay marriage position.
If he never changed his mind he'd be, um, well, George Bush.

(22,651 posts)kind of ashamed to discover my new sharp county land was taken from black people 'Christians' exterminated from Sharp county, Arkansas. This county is still white 'Christians' only. Even the current census shows the county segregation.

(18,184 posts)So Huckabee decided to double down on his previous comments.
Who put him in charge of deciding who is and is not a good christian? I thought that was God's job.

(2,787 posts)A former preacher who decided going into politics and putting people to death was more important to him than the bible. If anyone convictions should be questioned it is Huckabee. What a hypocrite.
