(5,252 posts)but are not disenfranchised, have conceded their desire to vote to the Republican Party's policy of (1) impedance when they are out of power and (2)setting government up to fail when they are in power.
VERY few Americans understand that Republicans want to undermine governmental programs with the intent on proving they are right: government is bad, a waste of money, and often makes matters worse.
Dems concede TOO MUCH when they concede that point.

(10,893 posts)that far too many in America today take voting for granted. Roughly 50-something percent voted in the past two Presidential elections, and 40-something percent voted in the 2010 midterms. Other countries have much higher turnout than that!
One of the main excuses out there I hear is that the two major parties are "the same", so why bother, but that is demonstrably false. Nowadays according to many experts, they're actually so far apart that they can barely agree on anything and get much done in Congress anymore. For example, Republicans want to cut top taxes, while Democrats want the opposite. They both disagree on gun control, health care, women's rights, voting rights, gay rights, foreign policy, Affirmative Action, etc.
From what I've heard, voting in America was originally intended for elite landowners in the old days, but it was eventually expanded to everyone. During the process, there have been people who either were beaten or arrested just to see the franchise expanded. It would be shameful for us as citizens today to essentially let their lives go in vain.
