http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/masters/2014/04/13/bubba-watson-jordan-spieth-masters-green-jacket/7678473/I'll never forget the time after his first win when he went on the Letterman Show and stole it. Awesome Golfer if there ever is one.
My hero for the day, Bubba Watson
I can't wait for the follow up on David Lettermans show.
This is awesome and I apologize for posting this here but I really like this guy for his honesty and humility

He is a great golfer, I've give you that.
I prefer Phil. He made be terribly inconsistent, but you gotta just love the guy. When he plays a great round, he plays a great round.
malaise
(268,976 posts)and while he's a good golfer, he is not in Tiger's league. Tiger changed the sport.

(6,795 posts)No, Lefty's not in Tiger's league on the golf course. If you bring politics into this...let's talk about Tiger's off the course antics.
He changed the sport because he is young and because of the internet and because of product sponsorship, IMHO.
Like I said, he's a great golfer. Just not my favorite.
malaise
(268,976 posts)Tiger brought the real money to golf and there is more than enough empirical evidence to back that up.
blueamy66
(6,795 posts)I stated that I didn't like his outbursts on the course and then added off the course. You got me.
You like Tiger...I love Phil.
And just because he brought $ to golf...really?

(10,164 posts)I don't think I'd like Tiger Woods much at all as a person...but he sure is enjoying to watch on the golf course. Well...to the degree I enjoy watching golf at all. I'm not really a fan of watching other people play...I'd rather do it myself, although what I do on a golf course only superficially resembles what Tiger and Bubba (or Inbee and Annika) do!.

No Tiger Woods and no drama on the back nine resulted in a rock bottom TV rating for the 2014 Masters. Bubba Watsons relatively easy victory Sunday at Augusta resulted in an ugly overnight TV rating of a 7.8. That was down from Watsons last Masters triumph (an 8.1 overnight in 2012).
If youre the type that cares about TV ratings for sporting events, this Masters chart is for you. Going back to 1993, I cant find a worse overnight rating on a non-Easter Sunday Masters than 7.8. The 2004 Masters overnight was only 7.3, but it was on Easter. It was actually a drama-filled back nine, with Phil Mickelson edging out Ernie Els.
The obvious takeaway: No Tiger, no Phil, no drama and nobodys watching. It surely didnt help that the Northeast was gorgeous Saturday and Sunday, and you could follow the events unfolding on your Iphone. If someone had made a charge, you could have just gone inside to watch it on TV.

(51,076 posts)I've never played the game although I once had a chance to play all I wanted for free. You see back in '68 and early '69 I was stationed down the road from Warner Springs Ca. Resort at the Navy's S.E.R.E. school (survival school) and worked at the Warner Springs Resort as a bus boy in the restaurant, serving notables like John Wayne and Glen Campbell while they were filming parts of True Grit near there. Anyways as an employee of the resort I could have played all the golf I wanted at their course but wasn't interested in golf.

(51,076 posts)I went though the School myself, had to in order to be a part of the program. It was tough, toughest period in my life by leaps and bounds. It was 6 weeks of holy hell capped off by a week in a simulated prisoner of war camp complete with torture. A mild form of waterboarding was used on some students, determined by what their duty station was going to be. If they were to be a commander of a Navy base/ship or were flying planes in 'Nam they more than likely were waterboarded. As I was neither, only one of the 95 instructors and support personnel I wasn't 'boarded.
If by the time you were captured and impounded in the Prisoner of war camp you weren't totally convinced that this was all real you would be removed from the school and with new orders sent to a different duty station than the one that got you in the school to begin with, no fucking around here. It was serious business as serious as a heart attack.

(27,993 posts)Big screw-up. I thought there would surely be a store or two on the path where I could chow down. The last 8 miles of the first 25 were awful. Perhaps a tiny taste?

(51,076 posts)I couldn't imagine a 50 mile bike ride unless I was on a bike that had a motor on it. I have PAD, PVD plus lung problems. COPD, adult onset Asthma and can't do much of anything that requires much walking or using my legs in any form.

BTW: I see a lot of recumbent bikes out there. And I've seen electric bikes. An electric recumbent????
Without said screwup, it's really nice out there. And 99.9% of the people I meet on the path are wonderful people.

(4,528 posts)He is absolutely one of my favorites. why? His wife(Angie) told him on their first date that she could never have children. How many men would have dumped her and never called her back? About 90%. He is a rare bird and he did and they are married. That is what makes him special.

Example:
On the 10th tee, some kid kept crunching potato chips during his backswing. After walking away and regrouping twice, he finally leaned on his driver, looked the kid in the eye and said "Can I have some?" Class act.
