What has GOTV done for our State gains

On Gay marriage or the changes in Pot laws or raising the minimum wage in towns?

I am willing to see documentation.

I know Cesar Chavez started his revolution barrio to barrio, workplace to workplace

Give money to the roots of the problem not just some upper management.

2. I have no idea, but someone that is always talking about GOTV should be able to answer that.

To me, it seems to be just about 'getting out to vote' and/or increasing voter awareness. I don't know if it needs to have separate issues besides that one, since we don't have mandatory voter laws and have low voter turnout.

4. But nobody if forced to vote. Maybe that is the sole purpose of GOTV.

To remind people. I think you have asked an interesting question. Does the GOTV movement have other progressive issues that they actively support?

I would like to see an answer as well. I am curious and google turned up nothing.

Its nothing.

Came up with that one
at 19 in a logic class.

Still no answers....... on my question

maybe my question is too difficult because we can't follow the money on what's important to us , I would love to see the money elite support real change.........LOL.

so they can be the first!

Why would the money elite support real change? Trickle-down economics is working splendidly for them! Never been richer! I hope you are not waiting for the 1% to support real change...they don't seem to be that much into it. At least don't hold your breath on it, you will most assuredly pass out.

6. Here, I'll tell you.

In Minnesota, the 2010 election let Republicans gain majorities in both houses of our state legislature. The result was a same sex marriage ban amendment on the 2012 ballot, cuts to education and a huge budget deficit. We also elected a Democratic Governor that year, be he was unable to get anything done.

In 2012, Democrats led a huge GOTV effort for that year's election. The result was that the Democrats regained control of both legislative houses. The anti marriage equality amendment was defeated. In 2013, the state legislature passed a bill that made marriage equality the law of the land, and the Governor signed it. The budget deficit was erased and we now have a budget surplus. We also just passed a major increase in the minimum wage for Minnesota, along with a strong anti-bullying bill for our schools. Both have been signed by our Democratic Governor.

You say it doesn't make any difference. You're just flat wrong about that. In Minnesota, it made an enormous difference...one that is being felt by a broad spectrum of state residents. There's more to come, too. The medical marijuana bill is still in play here, too.

Don't tell people that GOTV doesn't work. It does work, and Minnesota is evidence of it. We turned the state around in a single election. Other states can do the same. But, it takes a lot of work on the part of Democrats to make sure voters come to the polls. That's GOTV activism at work, and the results are powerful.

We did it. We demonstrated the power of GOTV. You are incorrect.

GOTV 2014 and Beyond! It Works!

but asking for real data
and I would be glad to acknowledge that GOTV made a change in Minnesota.

'Democrats led a huge GOTV effort for that year's election'

Is there Data on that?

9. Oh but you strongly implied it in the subject line of your OP. And, asking

Apr 2014

for data in the face of extraordinary facts and evidence in place is a continuation of the implication.

That started their own thread...out of feelings of hostility.

So there is your answer;

Q:does GOTV work on other progressive issues besides voting?
A:you are a malcontent for asking such a question on DU.

Weird answer, but there you have it.

I keep going back to Seattle for a reason as an old political scientist.

I only ask for people to observe what and where there is change and its local then statewide.

Pot and Gay marriage blew this country away.

14. Indeed. You predicted that a GOTV supporter would show up.
Tue Apr 15, 2014, 04:00 PM
Apr 2014

And one did. I gave an example of how it does work, and that it got the results the OP asked for. Marriage equality and minimum wage reform. So, yes, it does work.

No hostility. My message is a positive one, altogether. GOTV works. I have evidence of it from the state in which I live.

Not a weird answer. A direct answer.

15. You started another thread out of general hostility toward this OP asking a simple question.

You only have your own motivations to blame for it.

10. No doubt there is. I don't have it at hand.

The change that occurred is my evidence. We were on a terrible path with Republican legislative control. We fixed that, killed their vile anti-marriage amendment and immediately make major changes in Minnesota.

You asked for evidence of GOTV making a difference. I gave it to you. GOTV was why Democrats regained control of our legislature, and that has made all the difference. The changes refute your claim. They are many and major.

Go and do likewise where you live.

Note: I turned my post, slightly modified, into an OP. Thanks for the nudge that got me to post that.
