Simple assault defined here under Florida law:

784.011 Assault.—
(1) An “assault” is an intentional, unlawful threat by word or act to do violence to the person of another, coupled with an apparent ability to do so, and doing some act which creates a well-founded fear in such other person that such violence is imminent.

http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0700-0799/0784/0784.html

Add in a firearm and the fact he's aiming at a LEO or LEOs.

So we call this guy a terrorist because he is defending someone's right to mooch off of us. We agree with law enforcement... in this case because the offender is a right-wing douchenugget and his supporters appear to have been trucked in by the Kochs.

What will we call it when we're finally fed up enough with the Kochs mooching off of us to take action other than sit crosslegged and get pepper-sprayed/groped/shot-in-the-head-with-tear-gas/etc...

Will we call ourselves terrorists, too? Because guys like the Kochs will roll out their thugs, with or without a badge.

...but they are "law enforcement" when they are backing down from rednecks In Nevada.

Same people, which brings me to my original point. Their job is to maintain the status quo, no matter how fucked up it is. They will do it as long as there's a paycheck and a pension.

You seem bent on tripping me up. How about you tell me how we convince thugs/law enforcement to stop being the private army for the oligarchs and start protecting and serving us.

34. When a police officer came to my home a few months back ...
Thu Apr 17, 2014, 04:57 PM
Apr 2014

... he did so because there had been break-ins in the neighborhood ... and on this particular night, my next door neighbor's alarm had gone off.

There was no one home at their house, and everything seemed fine, but he noticed lights and movement at my house ... so he knocked to make sure we were ok. I called my neighbor to let him know the police had come. He was on a trip. We talked to the cop for a little while. Nice guy. At no point did I feel the need to "convince" him to stop being part of a "private army".

Perhaps I should I have considered him to be one of the "thugs" you speak of? Or, maybe I'm one of the oligarchs.

And as for the events in Nevada ... why do I get the impression that if those "law enforcement officials" got into a shoot out with those nut jobs, you'd be screaming ... POLICE STATE!!!!

But more importantly ... if the law enforcement officials that went to Nevada are actually part of some secret army, whose only job is to maintain the status quo ... then why did they need to go to Nevada at all?

I mean, why go and start to take that idiot's cattle, if the PLAN of the oligarchs is to let him do whatever he wants anyway? Why not just ignore him completely. Send no one. He'd been grazing on that land for years. Its not like anyone was going to notice or care.

So, if the goal is to keep things quiet, maintain the status quo ... they might as well ignore this guy, its not like he's part of "occupy", right?

37. The money they would have gotten for his fines...
Thu Apr 17, 2014, 05:18 PM
Apr 2014

...is now less than the money they would spend attempting to collect those fines: personnel, safety, media-damage-control, lawsuits from entitled-feeling "bereaved..."

But to Joe Average, it just looks like another example of ineffective, tyrannical government gettin' schooled by "patriots."

The oligarchs need to be separated from their money, the source of their power and control. Without it they are nothing. But doing so is impossible without breaking the laws they write themselves.

More and more, our laws, which are largely enforced by the police, are in place to protect them, not us. When the opportunity arises to look good by busting up a home invasion on the cheap, it will be done. Without the police, you are at the mercy of every sociopath that wants your stuff... but with the police, we will never get out from under the Gucci loafers of the 400-or-so people who own this country.

So... what do we do? Violence doesn't solve problems, it just puts them off until later. How do we separate these ego-driven, self-serving addicts from their drug of choice: power and the money to buy that power?

28. Legal Question
Thu Apr 17, 2014, 03:42 PM
Apr 2014

I have a serious legal question to ask. If the worse case scenario happened and gunfire had erupted exactly what grounds do these militia men think they have the right to defend Bundy or to shoot and possibly kill Federal Officers who are attempting to lawfully do their job. I find it frightening that we clearly have a group of individuals in this country who are looking for any excuse to start an armed conflict with the federal government. On the lighter side of things I thought the interview with a member of the Arizona Militia who called themselves "The Pretorian Guard" was amusing. I guess someone has a real love affair with the movie "Gladiator". Finally if Sean Hannity was a real man he would have been on that bridge with the militia members rifle in hand ready to defend his beliefs to the end.

and their stated right to stand their ground against tyranny. There is a large number of people in this country who are heavily armed and angry with a deeply deluded sense of justice.

If you're not nervous, you should be. It only takes 1 slip to start something that can get out of control very quickly. And we're dealing with people who are not very disciplined.
