XUbuntu is really light-weight. My old laptop, which was pretty sluggish with Windows XP, flies with it.

I'll get back with you later on about that as I need to learn more. I have to go walk my friend's dog - friend is on crutches.

earlier this morning. I've been using Ubuntu since 8.04 and quit updating with 10.04. I have a thread in the Open Source group with links if anyone is interested.

BTW, my computer is a Dell dimension 4700, purchased new about 13 or 14 years ago. Recently added an SSD drive that I use as my main HD.

No way will I ever go back to using a windows machine.

you might want to use a spinning platter hard drive for data/file/document storage And use your SSD for just the OS and applications. SSDs will degrade with a lot of rewrites and overwrites as in audio/video recording and editing.
