‘Duck Dynasty’ Is Over As Bible Belt Stage Show Is Canceled Due To Low Ticket Sales

http://www.politicususa.com/2014/04/18/duck-dynasty-bible-belt-stage-show-canceled-due-ticket-sales.html

The final stake may have been driven through the heart of one of the religious right’s media darlings. Participants of the A&E reality show ‘Duck Dynasty’ had scheduled a stage show in Springfield, MO. The show, titled ‘Faith, Family & Ducks,’ was supposed to take place April 26th at Springfield’s 11,000-seat JQH Arena. Tickets were on sale for $37, $50 and $58. The show was to be a mix of live music and lectures from the ‘Dynasty’ cast members, where they would discuss their faith and perhaps do some preaching and/or inspirational speaking.

Well, that event isn’t going to happen now. Apparently, even in the heart of the Bible Belt, people weren’t willing to shell out their hard earned dollars on the Robertson clan. The event was canceled due to low ticket sales. Refunds will be sent out over the next few weeks. However, who knows how many people actually bought tickets to this show/concert/sermon/whatever you want to call it. Obviously, not too many, based on the cancellation.

This past season saw a huge decline in ‘Duck Dynasty’s’ ratings. Overall, the show has seen a decline of 30% in the ratings from a year ago. In the key 18-49 demographic, the ratings drop has been even more severe. Last month’s season finale saw a 28% drop from last April’s season finale and a 40% drop in the 18-49 demo. It appears that Americans in general are just plain rejecting the Robertsons and their brand of entertainment.

It's the headquarters for Assemblies of God ministries. It's been a few years since I've been down there (even though I'm only two hours away) but it was always pretty conservative. So funny how it's home to Missouri State University (formerly SWMO State, when all my friends and classmates attended) but the town itself tends to be pretty religious.

Kansas City, Springfield, Columbia and St Louis reliably vote blue. The first and last are major cities; all have colleges and/or unis.

...and small cities and towns, particularly the southwest, you're in wingnut, thumper land, as pernicious as rural Alabama with very little difference than southern states. When was the last time Missouri was carried by a Democratic Presidential candidate? You have to go all way back to 1996 and 1992, but even then Clinton held only a plurality. It's been since Carter in 1976 since a Democrat carried Mizzou by a majority.

In 2012, I see only 3 counties that went for Obama, KC, Springfield and St. Louis. Might as well look like my state, NC.

They are multi-millionaires just from growing some long beards and acting a bit stupid. What a gig. I am sure that never thought it would be so successful and I am sure they knew it wouldn't last forever. To think they only had to work for four years and amass that amount of wealth. I think they are laughing all the way to the bank.

The novelty of the show just plain wore off. There are just so many contrived plots you can come up with before viewers start reaching for the remote and whether or not the DD boys were bigots or not doesn't enter into the picture.

And even somebody who still watches the show is unlikely to shell out $37 to see the same bullshit on stage that he can watch for free on the teevee.

They had a hell of a ride and I hope they invested wisely because it's pretty much all downhill from here.

Once the patriarch's idiotic comments were publicized, about a suitable marrying age for women---20 years old being past their prime, but 14 years old being just right---the bottom seemed to drop out from under this bunch of hillbilly wannabes. Seemingly overnight, they (thankfully) disappeared from my Facebook page; my right wing acquaintances no longer quoted them, chapter and verse. They can't disappear fast enough to suit me.

I can barely justify spending upwards of $10 to go see the latest blockbuster movies, consequently, I rarely do so. $37 for the low end ticket? Who do they think their audience is?
