Inspired in Part by Leonard Peltier, DC Comics’ “Scalped” Being Developed for Television

HOLLYWOOD — DC Comics’ “Scalped” is being adapted into a television program set on an American Indian reservation, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The comic book series, which began in 2007 and covered 60 issues through 2012, was partly inspired by American Indian Leonard Peltier, who is serving a life sentence in the U.S. Penitentiary in Coleman, Florida for killing two FBI agents in 1975 on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, home to the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

The show is being adapted for theWGN America cable channel.

The comic series “Scalped” was written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by R.M. Guera under DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint.

The comic series focused on the Oglala Lakota as they grappled with organized crime, poverty, drug and alcohol abuse as they sought to retain their cultural identity in modern times.

But didn't continue. Jason Aaron is a great writer though, so I should go back and start it over sometime.
