(47,573 posts)and I saw the first TV movie as well. I have read some really bad reviews about CBS All Access's version because of the excessive flashback/flash-forward format.
What do you think of this version?

(9,909 posts)Guess its the manner they have of clueing people into how things got this bad ie
1st outbreak local & how military guard got away
Harolds vision of the Dark Man and his acceptance
Underwood the same but no acceptance

Guess Im easy to please
I DO like the music chosen this time around
I just signed up for CBS All Access again and wondered if it was worth the time. Meanwhile, I have a season of Star Trek Discovery to catch up on.

(12,157 posts)At the time I was working nights. The first was Cujo. We have Great Pyrenees dogs, big white and similar to St Barnards. I was on a motorcycle heading down our long curving driveway to the gate when Detta came sweeping around to head me off at the gate. All I saw in my imaginative mind was rabid Cujo. I was in the middle of reading the book.
The next time I was reading Salem's Lot. No dogs this time just vampires. I was taking care of several telephone central offices and I had to drive cross town to one. The town was completely dead, no cars, no people nothing. In those days the traffic lights would all flash amber. When I got to the other office it was all I could do to make myself get out of the truck. Let me tell you I had my keys in hand and was inside in 2 heartbeats. I normally would do my thing and go back, but I stayed until the sun rose. Pretty silly - I blame Stephen.
What I notice in most of his books, everything is normal except there is one minor kink you don't really notice. Soon as the twig is bent the story goes way awry.

Theres normally a part when reading either of those guys, that I find myself closing the booking and needing to talk a walk. Not in the dark, though.

(25,576 posts)This this book is one of the great novels of the 20th century. Yes, I know he is not considered at the level of a Faulkner or Henry James or Emerson or Hawthorne, but the depth, breadth, and character development as well as the thesis of this novel compounded with the use of language and descriptors is remarkable. I am of course referring to the unabridged edition. I will undoubtedly watch this version on CBS.

(32,726 posts)... if the editors hadn't messed around with Stephen King's original manuscript. What the editors did to King's book was awful, and King was rightfully angry over the botched editing. I remember at the time - over 30 years ago - that he wanted to sue the publisher but I'm not sure if he actually did sue them.
My disappointment and frustration was over loose ends and side characters that were dropped halfway through, and I blamed King for doing a terrible job writing the book. Later I found out that it wasn't him, it was the editors who messed it up. Ruined it for me, but it gave me a better opinion of Stephen King after I heard that he was livid over it.
That said, I plan to watch this new version and maybe rekindle some enthusiasm for it.

(26,628 posts)A little pricey since it seems to be out of print, but not horrible.

(22,128 posts)I saw they were doing a re-make.
I read, "Salem's Lot", when my boss gave it to me back in the 70's--You gotta read this! So, I stayed up all night reading it, then called in sick the next day.
When the movie came out a few years later, I nailed my crawl space shut.
Been a fan for many years, and have most of his books. I have thought of, "The Stand", often over the past 4 years.

(1,855 posts)The 1994 version of the video is so much better. The casting for this version was incredibly poor, and didnt have any chemistry. In the 1994 show, Matt Frewer, Gary Sinise, Ray Walston, I dont even know the name of the actor who played Flagg, but he owned it. All of the character development was much more fleshed out, and the special effects werent bad either.
If you enjoyed this one, check out the older version, I think youll like it better. For dragging it out over 8 episodes, I hoped theyd surpass the old one, which had its flaws, but even so, this new one is poor sauce.

(1,855 posts)Shes hard not to see as Whoopi Goldberg, no matter where she goes or what she does, or how much make-up she has on.
Again, I think Ruby Dee owned the part with her performance in the 1994 series.

(11,484 posts)I hoped this one would be good, was going to buy a month of CBS if it was worth it.
