Do you know who is your county sheriff and are they elected or appointed?

In my area they are elected and is a plum job. They have a lot to say in running the road patrol, county jail, and adviser to towns for fire and emt service.

This used to be a republican county and is now quite purple. Republican sheriffs really took advantage of their jobshere so much that they finally got themselves thrown out.

Ours is elected. John Cooke (R - Teabag), aka Mr. Amy Oliver, is married to Colorado's Anne Coulter wannabe. He has spearheaded the protest against Colorado's gun legislation. He has a history of placing himself above the law, even before he announced he would not enforce the gun laws. He and DA Ken Buck got spanked by the state supreme court for raiding a tax prep office that caters primarily to Hispanics; they pawed through thousands of returns on the pretext of looking for illegal immigrants. Then Cooke decided he shouldn't be held to the term limits rule; again, courts ruled against him. Now he's running for the state senate seat being vacated by term-limited fellow teabagger Scott "Leviticus" Renfroe, who is one of three GOPers running against Ken Buck in the senate primary.

I'm campaigning for Joe Perez, who is running against John Cooke. Please throw him a couple of bucks if you can: http://joeforsd13.com/

Our candidate for sheriff is Jeff Rodriguez: https://www.facebook.com/rocknrodriguez
He doesn't have his website up yet, but stay tuned.

Not the nicest guy in the world, but I think he's doing an adequate job.
