(35,015 posts)I'm doing what I can to make sure Wendy and Leticia pick up where she left off here in the Lone Star state.
I am hoping that Wendy Davis becomes governor. I believe she will be
another Ann Richards. Most of what I remember of Governor Richards
was the humor and her way of endearing herself to the entire country.
Go Wendy and learn from Governor Richards. I believe Wendy Davis
has more support than is being published.

(12,503 posts)that had a hilarious moment I recall clearly today. Gov. Richards had told Leslie Stahl to interview who ever she wanted, there are no restrictions.
So, Leslie Stahl was interviewing Mollie Ivins on the Governor's mansion? front lawn about her opinion of Gov. Richards, and in the background of the screenshot was Gov Richards sort of hustling down the lawn toward them waving her arms and asking Leslie Stahl "..what are you doing?...what are you doing?"
So Stahl replied; "I'm interviewing Mollie...you said I could interview anyone I wanted", and Ann Richards replied , "Yeah...but NOT her....not her!" as she still moved toward them. It was a real laugh for all that I wish was in an online 60 Minutes archive.
I searched You tube and the CBS site, but I guess they don't put up past 60 Minutes shows.

(2,672 posts)both stole elections to become governors. Wildly popular Ann Richards lost to Bush, yeah right. Texas had been heavily Democratic Governors for decades and then all of a sudden repug?
I had my vote switched from dem to repug in a governors election and I called the precinct chairwoman who witnessed the switch after I backtracked my vote and voted again for dem and it switched again for repug. So I'm convinced the election was stolen to favor Perry. I tried to make a big stink locally but my voice fell to deaf ears. To the local politicians I'm a nobody after all.

(120 posts)and lived in Austin, where I drove Cab. I picked her up at the airport one evening and couldn't help myself. I asked her if she had ever been threatened in an official capacity. She said she'd "rather not talk about it". Not no, I'd rather not talk about it.

(112,150 posts)Most of the members of the public employees association were Republicans so they were happy that I did participate as a volunteer so that the association would have the bases covered. However, there were (and still are) enough crazy Texans to believe that she was threatened by some of them.
The closest that I ever came near her was about 10 feet away when they installed Robert Hunter as the new insurance commissioner.

(9,298 posts)is so quotable and so marvelous! I'd go so far as to say "golden." She always struck me as so at ease and comfortable within herself. You don't see that in every politician...some seem so defensive and unable to answer simple, direct questions. Guess they're not the truth-tellers Ann was.
Texas Towelie, any idea how many DUers are from Texas?
