A lot of people have family in a lot of places affected by tornadoes. Only assholes shoot the messenger or label the discussions "silly".
And of course I'm not referring to you, CTD!

And when I'm hunkered down in the basement waiting out a tornado warning, I have been known to be on DU. Familiarity calms sometimes.

Unless I'm evacuating my home or something like that - or lose power. Sitting around and worrying about things I have no control over doesn't take much time, so I can multitask.

we spent a lot of time in the basement.

I've never lived in hurricane country, nor in a place that is highly prone to earthquakes, which isn't bad weather of course, but a good earthquake plan would be a good idea.

Where I am I need to be more concerned about forest fires, which obviously isn't weather also, but usually are slow moving enough that evacuating is usually possible.

if I lived in a tornado-prone area, I'd probably just move into my basement.

So I watch DU for updates from and well-wishes to my DU "friends," and to remind myself why I won't move to tornado and/or hurricane-prone areas.

Blizzards I can prepare for. Then hunker down with the critters and hang out on DU with a nice hot toddy.
