Large Christian Organization Starts Petition Against Sarah Palin
byLeslie Salzillo
Faithful America, is the largest and fastest growing online community of Christians, putting faith into action for social justice. They say they are tired of watching the messages of Jesus be continuously hijacked to serve right-wing political agendas.
This week Faithful America is speaking out, and taking action against Sarah Palin, after her incredibly hateful and bizarre statement during the 2014 National Rifle Association NRAAM convention. Speaking to a cheering NRA crowd, Sarah Palin said,
" Water boarding is how we baptize terrorists."
Faithful America started a petition saying:
"This is what we've come to in America: A former candidate for vice-president can equate torture and Holy Baptism, and one of the nation's most powerful political lobbies erupts into cheers and applause.

There is also the Christian Left www.thechristianleft.org, and a few that are environmental in focus.

We are all in this together. Our faith compels us to act. End poverty. Restore community. Uphold the common good.
...
A visit to the groups website, makes it clear where the non-profit organization stands:
Republicans slash food aid for low-income women and children.
John Boehners budget guts key programs that help struggling families.
Some in Congress think the right way to balance the budget is to cut billions from basic investments in education and child health and nutrition.
We are going on the offensive against immoral budget cuts and threats to workers rights in the states.
Work to prevent the catastrophic effects of climate change.
Work for welcoming communities where immigrants and people of all faiths are welcome.
A Salaam Aalaykum ["Peace be with you" in Arabic]. We express our deep sorrow at abuses committed in Iraqi prisons. We stand in solidarity with all those in Iraq and everywhere who demand justice and human dignity.
We condemn the sinful and systemic abuses committed in our name, and pledge to work to right these wrongs.
Peter King has no shame. He continues to give voice to the fears and hatred of Americans rather than to what Lincoln called the better angels of our nature.
And this is a faith-based organization? I find it astonishing (supremely hypocritical) that many on the left who decry Christianity or at the very least, are constantly on the lookout for separation of church and state violations (only when it comes to Christians, of course) support the blatant efforts of groups like Faithful America to influence political agendas of their liking. Imagine the outcry in the liberal media, if Billy Grahams homepage looked more like a right-wing political blog than a Christian website.

That's like punching a peacenik and because you know they're not "supposed" to fight back, and then complaining when they do.
Or like accusing those who condemn racist policies of, y'know, dragging race into the argument.

It's more than time to push back against these utterly hateful and greedy people.

In a speech Saturday to the National Rifle Association, Sarah Palin said that "if I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists." The audience roared with approval.
This is what we've come to in America: A former candidate for vice-president can equate torture and Holy Baptism, and one of the nation's most powerful political lobbies erupts into cheers and applause.
As usual, Palin's remarks are already making international headlines, once again portraying Christianity as a religion of hatred and violence. But this time, let's show just how many Christians are appalled by Palin's twisted misrepresentation of our faith.
We're launching a statement to the media, denouncing her remarks and setting the record straight about baptism, torture, and violence.
Sign the petition:
For Christians, torture is not a joke or a political punchline, but a ghastly reminder of the suffering of Jesus upon the cross. By equating it with Holy Baptism -- the act by which we are united with Christ in his death and resurrection -- Sarah Palin is blasphemously twisting our faith into a weapon of hatred and violence. No media outlet should cover her remarks without reporting on how sincere Christians of all theological and political persuasions are appalled.
I need to check out this organization. I mean, a Christian entity that actually practices Christian values? Unbelievable these days!

(10,893 posts)become more vocal. Many non-believers have gotten the impression over the decades that these RW spider monkeys represent all Christians (and some people have been scared away from religion altogether), but that really isn't close to being true at all. As Thom Hartmann said during one of his radio segments, religion actually does have a lot to offer people. For example, real Christianity is not about dodging taxes or discrimination. It's not about hoarding guns and being paranoid of the government. It is about treating others the way you want to be treated. It's about creating a more caring community. It's about living--and letting live.

(40,367 posts)from their web page,
A few of our recent successes:
A New York Times September 2012 editorial endorsed our members challenge to the nation's top Catholic bishop, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, to crack down on partisan political activity in his parishes.
In a state thats long been synonymous with the religious rights political power, the Kansas Speaker of House was caught forwarding an email that asked his friends to pray for the death of President Obama. When 35,000 Faithful America members demanded he resign, our petition made headline news in every outlet in the state and forced him to offer a series of embarrassing public apologies that doubtless contributed to his June 2012 decision not to run for reelection.
After local clergy delivered over 100,000 petition signatures in July 2012, the public television system in Alabama, under the control of right-wing political appointees, reversed its plans to air a bogus documentary presenting the religious right's twisted retelling of American history.
