I ask what I owe him. He smiles and says not to worry about it.

My tire isn't holding air, and a can of tire goop hasn't helped. It stays firm when the car's parked, but once I start rolling it's only good for about ten minutes. After poking a bit, I decide the stem valve has probably gone west

I want to get through another walklist today, and tonight I've supposed to learn about some election day work. So the flat requires attention

After filling the tire with air, it's time to find the nearest possible place to fix it. Two have gone out of business. I finally arrive at a tire shop and ask them to repair the tire if possible or get me a new one if I need it. Why bother to explain what I think could be wrong? They're the pros

It takes a while. Customers float in and out. I diligently examine a copy of People ("Look how much weight she's lost since giving birth!&quot and then an automotive magazine ("Do we really need 700HP cars? Yes!&quot

When he comes to tell me it's fixed, I ask what I owe him. He smiles and says not to worry about it

I thank him

When I get back in the driver's seat, I realize a little packet of cards, with information on changes in the voting laws, has been propped up on the dash, so somebody could read it. I always keep it flat
