Wisconsin’s GOP Secession Panic

Wisconsin Republicans are set to vote on a measure this weekend that would affirm the state’s right to secede from the union. Goodbye, U.S. of A., Hello U.S. of Cheese.

snip//

"The vote comes at a fraught time for the Wisconsin Republican Party. GOP officials have been hoping that the convention would become a rally of support for Gov. Scott Walker, who faces a tough re-election campaign against Democrat Mary Burke, a former executive at Trek Bicycle Company and a former state secretary of commerce."

Meet Mary Burke, the Woman Who Could Beat Scott Walker

"Republicans call her “Millionaire Mary,” but Mary Burke has plenty of assets aside from her wealth to make her a strong contender to derail the reelection of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, along with his dreams of the presidency. Polls show the former Trek Bicycle executive either tied with Walker or trailing by just a few percentage points, while the Republican governor, who weathered a recall election in 2012, looks headed for a closer race than anyone expected."

It's going to be great fun watching them twist themselves into pretzels trying to explain why successful businesspeople shouldn't be elected to public office.

Damn good cheese too - and not just from the big ag players either. The Amish, whose largest North American settlement is in Holmes county, make a ginormous variety of cheeses - and lots of it. We won't miss Wisconsin either.

She says Walker’s refusal to accept Medicaid expansion makes “no common sense and no economic sense,” and his turndown of $800 million in federal money to build high-speed rail service to connect to Chicago was “definitely just political. We could use those jobs.” At 55, Burke is a political novice, and in a polarized electorate, that might be a winning formula.

Wisconsin, we have a whole lot of winning to do.
