General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOK let's get one thing straight about this Monica Lewinsky Crap.
Yes it's slut shaming. Yes it's a shitty situation.
But let's not forget what it really is. BULLSHIT. Pure unaltered, straight from Bullshit Mountain, grade A , 100% cold filtered bullshit.
It's meant to distract us and keep us divided while the powers that be quietly nominate a puppet like Rand Paul who's a yes man and caters exclusively to the best interests of the corporate criminals. While we're fighting about events that happened 20 fucking years ago, the Republicans are getting ready for a sweep of the House and Senate this year and a landslide victory in 2016. It's an effort to discredit Hillary Clinton from running. That's all it is. The media, the corporate criminals, the Kochs, they want Rand Paul, and with full control, he'll be way more dangerous than any number of George or Jeb Bush's.
Is that what you want? Let's stop playing into the bullshit and get out there. Back to posting.

(100,068 posts)So CNN and MSNBC are touting Monica Lewinsky when it should never have been reopened in the first place. It was bullshit then, it's bullshit now.
Meanwhile the republicans are talking about a super majority in 2016 and Rand Paul was seen with Rupert Murdoch at the Kentucky Derby. Last thing we need is a repeat of 2000.

(62,325 posts)I wish they would talk about the imminent threat to Net Neutrality.
I wish they would talk about the secret Trade Agreement.
I wish they would talk about the money we are spending on all of our foreign interventions.
Mostly I wish they would talk about stolen elections and War Criminals and Wall St criminals.
Among other things, like Money in Politics eg and how it has corrupted our system.
But they don't, because we have a Corporate Media. So I rarely watch them anymore.
Lewinsky is selling a book. Lots of people are interviewed by the Corporate Media when they have books to sell. That's what the Corporate Media does, it sells things and it sells propaganda that will make money for Corporations.
The media is supposed to report facts about important news to the public, but since deregulation of the media, that isn't going to happen. Clinton participated in deregulating the media. Had it not happened, we might be getting actual news instead of sensationalism.
But that is how it is now. Too bad we were busy trying to defend him from vicious right wing attacks re Lewinsky we might have been watching what was passing into legislation more closely.

(19,288 posts)Most of the polls indicated most of the public just wanted to move on. So darn tiresome. I imagine the Koch.brothers or some influential person kept the impeachment business alive in the 24 hour news cycle while tearfully proclaiming that schoolchildren in America would all need an explanation of fellatio. Oh boo hoo.

(15,220 posts)I agree with you that it is total bullshit. There is no doubt about it. What happened between Monica and Bill was no one's business other than Monica, Bill and Hillary. They've dealt with it and moved on (Monica's just trying to make a buck now...)
But the fact that this is coming out NOW instead of when Hillary really starts campaigning...is brilliant! Because the fact that it is being beaten to death by the media right now will make it less attractive for the Repukes to use in the future.

(15,220 posts)But I'm with Lynn Cheney on this one (can't believe I'm even saying this). But Hillary may very well benefit by this being cussed and discussed now rather than on the campaign trail.
Yes, the media will bring up everything and beat it to death over and over and over. Fox will probably really try to convince voters that Hillary was born in Kenya. But the American public bores easily and the media is all about ratings when all is said and done.

(59,503 posts)Everyone knows that Bill Clinton had a very sleazy inappropriate relationship and then lied about it under oath. They already had an impeachment and the Senate voted not to throw him out. It is over.
As there is nothing new, I doubt it changes the opinion of anyone about Bill Clinton -- let alone Hillary Clinton. It might be best if we just ignore it. The worst thing is to give anyone MORE oxygen on this by defending or excusing Bill Clinton. Why is it hard to say that he was an exceptional politician or a competent President AND that he behaved badly with an intern.

(301 posts)Um, I really don't get her complaints. The only reason anyone ever found out about what she was doing was because she not only blabbed about it to her friends, she BRAGGED about it. One friend of hers at the time claimed that she referred to herself as "The President's cocksucker." She's the one who made it a story, one which blew up in her face. There's even an episode of Law & Order from the 90s which refers to someone having committed a "Lewinsky". Her father threatened to sue NBC but his anger was aimed in the wrong direction.

(57,936 posts)She is quickly approaching middle age if not there already.
By publishing a book about herself, she is merely emphasizing that she hasn't accomplished anything out of the ordinary in her life, nothing that would make her cool and famous and sought after, not even just becoming wise. So now she is writing a book to try to extend the 15 seconds of fame she grabbed during the Clinton years.

(13,058 posts)Monica Lewinski came forward because she is promoting her book. I think she needs the money. I don't blame her one bit.
Now having said that, will the Republicans try to exploit this? Of course they will. They try to exploit everything. We all know that. But that's not Lewinski's fault.
LisaLynne
(14,554 posts)because if anybody is blameless here, it's Hillary Clinton. I mean, the people who would be less inclined to vote for her because they are reminded of this were never going to vote for her in the first place, you know?
