Thermals under everything were a grunge thing. It probably made sense in Seattle, it was a little warm for CA.

I had plaid polyester grandpa pants I cut off and wore over thermals. Army pant cut offs or cargo shorts were more typical. Some women wore them under dresses or skirts.

Barely remember the 80's except for judo. Loved judo. Can still flip a 300 pound man on his back.

I guess i hated the goth resurgence? Safety pins through lips, white makeup, running around looking like wednesday adams, cutting to be seen as an emo. I hated that. Some of my friends went over the edge.

While I'm not a great fan of their music, it was Pearl Jam's (Vedder's) social consciousness and commitment to many progressive issues we hold dear as liberals, that makes their effort so important. Their boycott of TicketMaster (for ripping off all music fans with redundant fees) was courageous and showed who was walking the talk.

"The festival's origins trace back to a 1993 concert that Pearl Jam performed at the Empire Polo Club while boycotting venues controlled by Ticketmaster. The show validated the site's viability for hosting large events, leading to the inaugural Coachella Festival being held in October 1999 over two days."

There were interesting early bands like Dinosaur Jr. that got lost in the heavy promotion of a few big acts.

But I was already wedded to my old punk records, and only now have a tardy appreciation for some 90's acts I wish I'd paid more attention to.

I remember there being a huge generational split on the issue, with the older folks I knew being ScaNdAliZeD!!! by the idea and the younger generations (<35) basically saying "meh".

And then the big, expensive impeachment mess.

C'mon, I'm a '90s kid myself but that whole franchise has really worn itself out, and jumped the shark a decade ago. Sadly, even Sonic has suffered a similar fate, it seems(though at least the newest Pkmn games are still decent at least).

but I agree that it gets tired sometimes, particularly when it comes to the game's formula. It is the 6th generation now, and they still are having players start using one of the same 3 types (fire, grass, and water). They still put the electric rodents in the games (Pikachu, Plusle, Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, Dedenne), the generic rodents (Rattata, Zigzagoon, Sentret, Bidoof, etc.), more annoying bats and rock-type Pokemon appearing in caves, more weak bugs at the beginning (Caterpie, Weedle, Ledyba, Wurmple, Scatterbug), more early birds (Pidgey, Taillow, Hoothoot, Starly, etc.), the standard 8-badge quest, and a champion at the end that always includes some pseudo-legendary on their team (e.g. Dragonite, Metagross, Garchomp, etc.).
Another one of my main criticisms has to do with mega-evolutions. GameFreak only gave them to a handful of Pokemon--none of which are from the latest generation. And they basically gave them to a bunch of Pokemon that already had pretty high stats to begin with, such as Mewtwo and Tyranitar. I can think of a ton of Pokemon that have been in DIRE need of evolutions or stat boosts, but have seemingly been neglected. I would argue that GF played a bit of favoritism regarding which Pokemon get mega-evos, and gave them to many of the ones that are most popular with the fans. Even Charizard got 2 mega-evos, while Blastoise and Venusaur only got 1 each. And Mewtwo got 2, while Mew didn't get one at all.

I know the purpose of the "all OJ all the time" dynamic was that of a self-made media bonanza/gravy train; but why did everybody take the bait and keep the talk of it going? I just couldn't understand why so many people wanted to talk about nothing else. It was just pop-culture ""everybody's talking about it, so I guess I have to" bullshit.

I think back now and wonder just how many an otherwise decent person I knew or met was written of by me as a narrow, shallow dolt due to their attempts at making friendly conversation/small-talk by bringing up the OJ thing.

the 24/7 coverage. To this day, I still don't understand it. I understand the media's reason for covering it. They were under directives to NOT provide actual news. OJ was non-news du jour. But for non-media people who have more than one working neuron, I don't get the appeal. But then, I don't understand the appeal of mob sports either.

Soaps were huge in the 80s (Luke and Laura, etc) despite more women working; you could now tape it on your VCR! But the endless OJ trial pre-emptied the soaps for months on end and people got out of the habit of watching them, and they never recovered.
