During his interview with MSNBCs Chuck Todd today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) ripped Todd and other Beltway journalists for not being honest about what the Republican Party is doing.
Chuck Todd tried to float the old both sides do it false equivalency to explain why the Senate is obstructed, but Harry Reid was having none of it. Reid said, One of the problems the has with modern-day journalism is everything you do a tit for tat. You wont call things the way they actually exist. What has happened here is that the Republicans have stopped everything from happening, and theres no question that that meeting took place. That was the agreement made. They know who was there. They know what has happened since then, so you can give me the tit for tat all you want, but the fact is we want to legislate. We want to legislate and take votes.
Sen. Reid spoke the truth. Chuck Todd is one of the biggest purveyors of the Republican talking point infused Beltway media groupthink. Todd is a reliable talking head that will always suggest that both sides do it, when the reality is that one side held a meeting after President Obama took office and decided that they were going to obstruct the Obama agenda.
The media has been covering up for the Republicans, and it was good to hear Harry Reid call it out. No matter what people like Chuck Todd want to claim, both sides arent doing it. One side has decided to shut down the legislative process. Democrats are still managing to accomplish some remarkable things despite the obstruction, but Chuck Todd doesnt want to talk about the ugly politics of Republican obstruction. Instead, Todd is living in a magical land where both sides do it, and all politics is an extended version of the election horse race that the mainstream press is so addicted to.
Chuck Todd got called out on his BS, but that wont stop him from not reporting the way things really are, and who is responsible for the congressional gridlock.

(1,085 posts)NBC News political director and MSNBC host Chuck Todd is claiming that it is not his job to correct the constant Republican lies that he gives airtime to.
During a panel discussion on MSNBCs Morning Joe, Chuck Todd casually made the shocking statement that correcting Republican lies in pursuit of the truth is not his job.
(snip)
People arent saying to the mainstream media that they want them to support Democrats. The message is that the media should be interested first and only in facts. People get frustrated with the media, because they give lies the same weight as facts. As a journalist, Chuck Todd shouldnt be evaluating messaging. He should be only interested in communicating truth and facts.
One of the main reasons why Obamacare is misunderstood is that the mainstream media shares the the same attitude as Chuck Todd. Facts arent our business. Todds point is that he is only here to let each side put their message out there, and the best message wins. What Todd described isnt journalistic neutrality. Its laziness and indifference to factual reporting.

(11 posts)One week before the 2012 election when Nate said Obama was surely going to win, Chuck Todd said the more likely outcome in the 2012 election was a Romney runaway win. His prediction was seconded by Joe Scarborough, of course, and those dim beltway bores, Heilman and Meachem. Todd should just do the inevitable and join Fox News.

(81,238 posts)Glad you're here! I find this just BEYOND infuriating!!! We call him "Fuck Turd" around our house. And every day he earns that name, anew. I'm a retired broadcast journalist. It just burns me up to see this happening. Journalism is and should be a revelation of truth, NOT just you say potato and I say potahh-to, let's call the whole thing off. Journalism should be shining a light and educating the public on what is truth and what is falsehood or bullshit or manipulation. What can stand as fact, and what can't. And it does NONE of those things anymore. ANYBODY with an agenda and a photogenic face (usually, add blonde hair and delete sleeves - at least for the females) can go on and say anything they want, truth be damned. Our profession used to be held accountable for what information it disseminated. No more. chuck todd is nothing more than a free-marketer disguised as a "journalist." Let the market decide. Just put it all out there and let the viewer/listener/consumer decide. Well, THAT only works well when those on the receiving end - the viewer/listener/consumer - is WELL-INFORMED. ONLY THEN can anyone make correct calls. If they're not, if they're force-fed any old bullshit somebody who looks good or who has power can go on the air and say, or issue in print, then people will believe whatever sounds good or feeds their own predilections.

(11,085 posts)Is it a new binary joke? I like binary jokes.
After all, there are 10 kinds of people in the world--those who understand binary and those who don't.
And really, binary is as easy as 1, 10, 11.

(17,656 posts)But, they aren't buying it.
The mainstream media hasn't fooled the latest generation of voters into believing that Obama is going to take their guns away, push for legislation to ban the Bible, or force workers to join communes in order to get healthcare.
Kids today are far more connected to what is going on in the real world because of cell phones, text messages, and the internet.
Back in the 50's, kids only heard about what was going on in their local neighborhood at their hangouts, the local soda shop or at the playground of the school they went to.
Not now, kids in their 20's are very aware of the phony media hyping horseshit about the Democrats.
They know it is the Republicans that don't want to raise the wages where they work, or let them get affordable healthcare, or obtain Pell grants to go to college.

(3,539 posts)You just have to wonder how much of Nevada Reid will be accused of wanting to turn into a Chinese solar farm, especially land around the Bundy ranch. If he keeps pointing his finger at the Fox and calling out Koch-suckers, no doubt there will soon be documented proof that Harry is planting endangered turtles amongst the sage brush.
After all this time thinking Harry was a 'milk toast', then he started taking names and kicking ass. Suddenly Reid joins the ranks of evil Democrats.
Give 'em hell Harry!

MSNBC host Chuck Todd said Wednesday that when it comes to misinformation about the new federal health care law, don't expect members of the media to correct the record.
During a segment on "Morning Joe," former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) speculated that most opponents of the Affordable Care Act have been fed erroneous information about the law. Todd said that Republicans "have successfully messaged against it" but he disagrees with those who argue that the media should educate the public on the law. According to Todd, that's President Barack Obama's job.
"But more importantly, it would be stuff that Republicans have successfully messaged against it," Todd told Rendell. "They don't repeat the other stuff because they haven't even heard the Democratic message. What I always love is people say, 'Well, it's you folks' fault in the media.' No, it's the President of the United States' fault for not selling it."
The health care law has long been shrouded in misinformation, a point that Obama himself made in an interview Tuesday with Telemundo. A poll Tuesday showed that support for the law among Republicans was higher when called by the Affordable Care Act, its official title, rather than "Obamacare," a term used derisively by Republicans that has gained widespread usage.

(7,142 posts)is that the M$M is liberal, including msnbc, just ask Phil Donahue, Keith Olbermann, Cenk Uygur, Dylan Ratigan, Martin Brashear.
Sure, msnbc, puts a liberal slant on the narrative, but their narrative is controlled, the topics they discuss are controlled. Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes violate the narrative quite a bit, they better watch out.
Watch the cable news programs on msnbc every night. If I want to see clips of Rush Limbaugh, or Paul Ryan, or Ted Cruz, all I have to do is turn on the Ed Show or the Tweety Show, or any of the other shows. Why give right wingers like Limbaugh publicity by showing their clips? Even if you go on to denounce the clip, you put it out there for all to see, you are putting right wing talking points out there, stop it.
Show Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Nancy Pelosi, period. Show climate scientists, people who have benefitted from Obamacare, people who have been poisoned by fracking, get my drift?

(13 posts)Chuck Todd is just another corporate climber who sold out what journalistic integrity he had for personal gain. He's not effected by the pains most Americans are going for. He is just another beltway Washington reporter out of touch with reality who "strives" to be "objective." I can't believe Walter Cronkite would have stood up for this shit... going with the flow as the Republican Party moves further and further to the right. Hey, Chucky, go back and read the 1st Amendment to be reminded what your roll is as a journalist... asshole.
