That Embassy is a GOP Talking Point----so Why Is DU Talking about It and Not ACA, Unemployment,

Gun Violence, Global Warming, Immigration Reform and the fact that so many of our brothers and sisters---particularly our elderly brothers and sisters are going to to the polls this fall only to find out that they have been disenfranchised?

Why? Because we let the GOP and its MSM lapdogs determine the topic of the national political dialogue. This fall's election was supposed to have been a referendum on Obamacare. Remember? And then the GOP discovered that there was nothing to dislike about getting health insurance when you used to be uninsured, so someone said "Didn't we have an October Surprise from 2012 that Romney flubbed? Let's dust that one off and make this fall a referendum on that."

What happens when the GOP and their media whores get us off the 24 states that did not take the Medicaid expansion so they are committing genocide against their own mostly rural poor citizens, immigrants whose kids live in limbo never knowing from day to day if they will be deported back to a country they have never known, and the fact that you can not walk into a grocery store nowadays without wearing a bullet proof vest because you never know when someone may get mad at someone else for having 10 items in the 9 item only express lane and both of the shoppers may be carrying semi-assault weapons? The GOP keeps the political dialogue exactly where it wants it.

Speaking of the elderly and guns, the NRA would have you believe that guns are the Great Equalizer. Guns will do for you what the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act and the rest of the Bills of Rights only tried to do. Pack a weapon-- preferably one with a hair trigger, laser sight and huge clip---and you need fear nothing.

Pearlie Golden, 93, the widowed wife of a police officer in Hearne, Texas was shot and killed by police after she became upset that she could not renew her drivers license because she was judged too old and frail. She picked up a gun. Her family called the police. Police saw the frail 93 year old woman--and they saw the gun. The gun was not frail. The gun was not a well loved woman in the community. The gun was a gun capable of killing anyone. The gun was a Great Equalizer. It stripped Ms. Golden of everything that made her who she was---and turned her into a statistic.

The NRA is not trying to keep us safe. The NRA wants us to hate and fear one another--even 93 year old women. The GOP does not want to keep our embassies safe. It wants us to hate and fear the world and one another. If we keep bickering among ourselves, arguing about who is most oppressed and whose needs come first, we will never address anyones needs and we will all wallow in oppression under the boot heel of another Bush president and Republican Congress as they sound the oil drums of war one more time, sending our soldiers off to die and committing civil rights atrocities that will make anything the current administration is doing look like kindergarten games.

Eyes on the prize, my friends. Health care. Unemployment. Immigration. Gun Violence. Global Warming. Five topics that Americans can get behind, if we can get on topic.

This is a discussion forum. If you want to steer a discussion, start one, instead of berating people because they're not talking about what you want to talk about.

And if you are referring to Benghazi, that's not an embassy. The embassy is in Tripoli.

And "oil drums of war?" Oy.

I'm too distracted by poverty, the uninsured, the unemployed and my friends and patients who can not afford their medications, food, rent or get photo IDs to help them vote. But everyone who would rather be talking about that not-embassy go right ahead. At last count there were---oh, I lost count---a whole lot of DU threads to choose from.

Maybe we could make THIS an all purpose "Let's talk about something else" thread.

what happened in Benghazi took place in a Consulate not an embassy and it seems it was actually a CIA outpost serving as a Consulate as well.

I certainly hope your point is brought up in every one of them, however. A GOP talking point, indeed.

I saw a commercial for Stever Stivers (OH15, R) focusing on jobs. Jobs for 2014. That's great, Steve. Are you planning on overthrowing Boehner? Because the Republican led congress doesn't do jobs bills and doesn't plan on doing any as they are too busy trying to overturn the ACA. But it sure sounds like a nice soundbite. Jobs for 2014.
