The shooting deaths in 2010 of three people with ties to the U.S. consulate in Juárez could have been prevented by U.S. officials who allegedly had information that one or more consulate employees were on a cartel "hit list" and failed to warn them, according to a Dallas law firm who represents whistleblowers.
Cary Schulman, a lawyer with the Schulman and Mathias firm, spells out the allegations in a letter to high-ranking members of Congress, including U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, who presided over the hearings about the ATF's Operation Fast and Furious.
In an interview, Schulman said he believes that the government allegedly covered up the real motive of the 2010 consulate-related murders.
"I hope there will be a criminal investigation into all this," Schulman said. "For now, I am encouraged that members on the Hill (Congress) have asked me to send any additional information I might have."
