DANIEL STRAUSS MAY 12, 2014, 10:37 AM EDT
Before Timothy Geithner became treasury secretary he had a run-in with conservative author Dinesh D'Souza in which Geithner asked D'Souza "how it felt to be such a dick."
That moment was recounted in Geithner's new memoir, Stress Test. It happened in the 1980s when Geithner and D'Souza were undergraduate students at Dartmouth College. D'Souza, then an editor of the conservative Dartmouth Review, had overseen the newspaper publishing a list of members of Dartmouth College's Gay Straight Alliance which effectively outted a number of students who hadn't publicly said they were gay.
According to Geithner in his memoir, as reported by Buzzfeed, he viewed the list as "McCarthy-style." When Geithner ran into D'Souza at a coffee shop he asked the conservative writer "how it felt to be such a dick."
D'Souza is currently under federal criminal indictment for alleged violations of campaign finance law. D'Souza's trial begins May 19, according to Reuters.

(12,287 posts)I just could not watch. I won't watch the repeats of that one either. Dsouza makes me want to throw-up so I just could not watch. Even if they teared him a new one on the show, I couldn't watch it.

Of course it is easy to ignore our two invasions of Iraq based lies and over a million people killed,
Then there is Luis Posada Carriles who the U.S. refused to turn over to Cuba for the downing of a Cuban airliner or the so clever Iran Contra affair along with our wonderful participation in the 8 year old Iran Iraq war where millions were killed.

(5,169 posts)I thought he was referring to the post right above it.
Nevertheless, some of the cheer leading for prison rape that I have seen here is quite disheartening.
As is the insistence that just because an individual is not a rapist that there is not a "rape culture". If someone is not a rapist, that is awesome! Help teach others not to be one!

(47,209 posts)And I see how the graphic description of how to find that body part lead to the (probable) misunderstanding.
I was going to suggest asshole myself, since I hate seeing dick (and pussy) being used as slurs here. And I think maybe that's where above poster was going.
Can you believe the NY Post used Pussy as a slur in a headline this week? Those assholes!

(70,783 posts)IIRC from "Blinded by the Right" D'SOUZA was one of INGRAHAM's boyfriends. I wonder which one was the one she held a gun to the head of. The outings were between her crawlings across barroom floors.
Her of the sainted conversion to Catholicism in the late '90s conversion craze (to Opus Dei?) among D.C. spooks & FBI & Robert NOVAKula. In her early post-conversion appearances I strained to detect the SPIRITUALITY, a trace of non-BILE and Christlike LOVE in her. Surely there must have been *some*thing!1 Nope, nup, no-no. She was the SAME repugnant, detestable, vile jerk. I e-mailed The Little Sisters of the Poor to ask how spirituality is supposed to manifest in a convert like her, and a nun replied that she didn't know who INGRAHAM is.

.... I was quoted in the piece saying that Laura was unreservedly accepting of homosexuality, which in my presence she always had seemed to be. On more than one occasion, I had taken her barhopping along the gay strip in Washington, where she seemed to have a blast. Inevitably, though, as we drowned ourselves in more and more alcohol, the evening would take a ghastly turn. One night, after downing several cocktails and snorting an unidentifiable white powder an acquaintance had given me -- which turned out to be the cat tranquilizer Ketamine -- I was sick in the bathroom for several hours trying to get my bearings as Laura, in a drunken stupor, crawled through the packed two-story dance club on her hands and knees looking for me. Her purse had been locked in my car trunk, causing her to call a friend in the wee hours of the morning to rescue her. In the meantime, she had managed to leave me a series of violent messages, threatening to "break every window in my house" if I didn't return the keys immediately.
Among all of her friends, Laura had asked only me, and a former classmate from Dartmouth named Debbie Stone, to speak on her behalf to Vanity Fair, but in the end, I was the only one quoted. When I asked Laura's friend Debbie, a conservative political gadfly who had been involved in promoting a book by Floyd Brown called Slick Willie during the '92 campaign, why she backed out, she said she wasn't about to cover up for Laura: "What am I supposed to do? Talk about how she pulled a gun on a boyfriend after he broke up with her?" No wonder I was the only one who talked -- I started to think that I didn't know Laura all that well after all."

(45,251 posts)After the huge post bail out bonuses hit the fan, Sen. Dodd claimed that he had written a limit on compensation/bonuses into the bailout, but then Geithner, came to Dodd and asked him to remove the provision. And so Dodd removed it.
Last Sunday, though, promoting his book on the talking head shows, Geithner could not express enough chagrin about the bonuses. Says he told them, "This will kill us." He never did mention telling Dodd to take it out of the bill, though.
Senator Dodd, of course, told the story because he thought it reflected well on Senator Dodd, which will show you how utterly clueless D.C. is, but that's another story.

(48,217 posts)He was a recent immigrant from a socially conservative family, and he accidentally wandered into a gay social gathering. His virgin eyes were so shocked that he went around campus asking who was against this sort of thing. Someone pointed him to the Dartmouth Review, and he never looked back and has spent the rest of his life as a professional shill.
I forget where I read this. It was many years ago, perhaps in an article about the Dartmouth Review.
