We Have Evolved Under a Light-Dark Cycle- the Arrogance' of ignoring need for sleep

http://www.bbc.com/news/health-27286872
<snip>
Society has become "supremely arrogant" in ignoring the importance of sleep, leading researchers have told the BBC's Day of the Body Clock.

Scientists from Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Manchester and Surrey universities warn cutting sleep is leading to "serious health problems".

They say people and governments need to take the problem seriously.

Cancer, heart disease, type-2 diabetes, infections and obesity have all been linked to reduced sleep.

The body clock drives huge changes in the human body.

It alters alertness, mood, physical strength and even the risk of a heart attack in a daily rhythm.

On my way to work around midnite. I do marvel @ those who think they are tough because they never get sleep. I am rather militant about it ever since I experienced severe sleep depravation 25 years ago with my first baby. Have suffered it due to menopause nightsweats but finally found remedy ;1/4 mg. Xanax, aTylenol pm minus the tylenol and a little pot before bed. Sure I often wake up drenched(nightsweats have no mercy) but yeah, I slept right through it and feel rested at least.

I feel sorry for the bad asses out there who like to brag about no sleep. They know not what they do.

People have to get up at 5am and out the door by 6 to get to work by 8 (traffic is reason). Then they have to work 9 hours (that 1 hour lunch is not free). So they leave at 5. Get into the house by 7 (traffic again). Get dinner on the table around 8. Got through bills from the mail and other tasks. Suddenly it is 10. Turn on the TV and suddenly you are sleeping around 1130. Up again at 5am to start the grind all over again. That schedule is actually generous for what actually happens for people.
