Virginia Official Who Pushed For Christian Public Prayer Refuses To Stand During Invocation By India Heritage Society

It was just one year ago that Al Bedrosian was a Republican running for a seat on the Roanoke County, Virginia Board of Supervisors. Prior to that, Bedrosian had authored an article for the Roanoke Times in which he talked about how this country was not only a Christian nation, but one where non-Christians should not be allowed to worship at all, and he’s double down on his previous words.

Supervisor Al Bedrosian declines to stand during today's invocation, which was led by the India Heritage Society.

in action - our way only.

Not sure if anyone knew about this from 2007:

What is very sad is that Mr. Zed firmly believes and promotes inter-faith discussion and coming together.

They will be uttered by born-again, bigoted, hateful, knuckle-dragging, family tree doesn't fork, no dental plan Republicans.

When they speak of "freedom of religion" they mean freedom to impose their brand of Christianity on everyone else. In their minds there are no other religions. They don't even recognize other denominations within Christianity as worthy of respect or dialogue.

It is the same everywhere. There was the case of Louisiana passing a school voucher program under which state vouchers could be used at religious schools. The nit-wit Republican who sponsored it was aghast when I believe it was a Muslim wanted to use a voucher at a Madras. I don't know what ever happened but I think she said something to the effect of "this was only intended for vouchers to be used at you know religious, I mean Christian schools.

These people have no respect for anyone with any other viewpoint. Christianity, despite the words of its namesake, has been one of the most violent and hateful religions in world history. I am not absolving militant Islam, Islam as represented in Sharia law, and other militant and violent characteristics of other world "religions". But I am saying that anyone who thinks Christianity is a religion of peace needs to study some history.

Today, in this country, "Christianity" is killing poor people because governors refuse to expand Medicaid. Christianity is harming families by robbing them of needed unemployment benefits, food and other assistance. Christianity is dooming children to lives less than their potential by cutting off funding for HeadStart, education, after school programs. Christianity is killing young adults who leave college with astronomic student loan debt because we are going to "put it to those measly students". Christians are killing contrary to their namesake's will in state-sponsored murder, i.e. capital punishment. Whether someone convicted is innocent or guilty this is state sponsored murder.

Christians are killing thousands if not tens of thousands of people by their support of unending war. Christians are killing the planet, the gift they believe came from God, by refusing to reign in greenhouse emissions, pollution of our air, water, soil. They are killing God's creation by turning a deaf ear to the urgency of saving endangered species. They are killing the planet by refusing to stop genetically-engineered foods when we should be looking at the bounty already available in nature.

Christians are subjecting people to extreme poverty and want by refusing to raise the minimum wage. Christians are putting the rich before the poor or the sick by their policies.

The people of which I speak are "Christians" in name only. They are not Christians I would recognize from my read of the Christian Bible. And they are 99.9% Republican conservatives.
