http://thepunditpress.com/2014/05/15/allen-west-i-am-considering-a-run-for-president/Looks like the first clown just got into the driver's seat of the car. I guess this is what Priebus was hoping to stop with the new primary policies....people who have no frickin' chance of winning the nomination sucking up the oxygen and just further pushing any "legitimate" candidates further into the right fringe margins

Of course the idiots at Free Republic are already lining up in support for this joke of a human being. I wouldn't be surprised to see the GOP pay off West to go away before he starts too much damage.

(23,292 posts)I predict a lot more of this.

(24,368 posts)The mere fact that West doesn't or won't see that he has absolutely no chance of EVER being elected President is proof enough he is unfit to even consider it.

(32,701 posts)I wouldn't be surprised if they nominated a woman or a racial minority (Cruz, Rubio, Jindal, West, that doctor -forgot his name).

(3,596 posts)I don't recall way out there progressive candidates hijacking the Democratic nominating process the way the bats**t crazy nut cases do the Republican.
I'm trying to think of a time when there was a candidate for the Democratic nomination that was just so far out there they stood little chance of winning the nomination and virtually no chance of winning the general.
Some might say that in fairly recent memory McGovern and Dukakis fit that bill. But not really. Both of them actually won the nomination. McGovern was certainly a candidate that reflected the Democratic party's fatigue over the Vietnam War. Dukakis may have been something of an anomaly.
But on the right you have a whole army of people who are just nut cases who throw their hat in the ring. We have Allen West, Rick "don't get it on me" Santorum, Michelle "I pretend my husband isn't gay" Bachmann, Newt "I'm both a lizard, a creep and a serial adulterer" Gingrich, Rick "what was the 3rd department I would abolish" Perry, Mike "I hate the gays" Huckabee, etc.
Personally I don't think any of these candidates really believe they will be nominated and have less of a belief they could ever be elected in the general election. I think for them it is about self-promotion and money. When they say they want to "pray" about it they mean they want to consult with their politicos to see how much airtime they can get and how much money they might rake in, especially in a subsequent book deal and speaking tours. Their God is money.
So Allen West knows there is not a prayers chance in hell he could win the nomination and an lesser chance of winning the general. He has crawled out from under the rock underneath which he slithered after being soundly defeated for re-election. He is basking in the warm spring sunshine and praying to his checkbook.

(15,381 posts)I think it's probably about 50-50 when it comes to candidates believing or not they have a chance. Santorum I think is one of those who knows he has no chance, but he stays in the game in order to make sure his political interests stay at the forefront as well as make some money. Others, though, live in such a bubble that they believe that their opinions and the crazies who support them make up the majority of Americans, and even when they go down in flames, they still don't face the reality of the situation. West is one of them. Yes, he'll also try to make money off his run because republicans don't do anything if there's no money in it for them.

(5,842 posts)Santorum and Bachmann (as embarrassing as they were) at least had some sort of government experience they could point at to nominally justify their runs.
Caine seemed to treat the primary process as simply a way to make some money and sell some books. The fact that the whole of his economic policy was wrapped up in 999 showed that he wasn't serious to start. However, he managed to hang in long enough that he got his chance to become the front runner...which says a lot for the people who vote in GOP primary contests.

IOW Palin's just running another scam that will fleece her lemming-like followers of more of their much needed savings income.
