Follow-up on the heroic cat story, from the Bakersfield paper.

The reason the mother left the boy right after she picked him up, was to chase the dog back into his yard -- and she got bitten as well.

The owners of the dog, a lab-chow mix, have turned him over to the city. After the rabies quarantine, he will be put down. The dog had been in his fenced backyard, but got out when the owners opened a gate to park a car. The parents of the boy don't blame the dog owners, saying it was just an accident.

If you own an animal that stalks and tries to kill children (and there is no doubt that was what the dog had in mind from the way he was shaking him), you do the humane thing.
