CNN Fires News Editor Who It Says Plagiarized At Least 50 Stories

CNN announced Friday that it fired a news editor who the network said had serially plagiarized articles.

Marie-Louise Gumuchian, who reported on Africa, Europe and the Middle East from CNN's London bureau, was terminated after one of her stories was flagged during the editing process last week. An internal investigation uncovered "about 50 published stories" that contained plagiarized material, according to the network.

CNN was still investigating, but the company said in an editor's note that the instances of plagiarism found in Gumuchian's articles have been removed.

“It’s kind of ballsy — don’t you think your old colleagues might look to see what you were doing at your new job?” the source said, adding that as a longtime journalist it’s unlikely Gumuchian thought it was okay for her to use Reuters wire content without attribution. Or that it would be acceptable.
